OLD BUT GOLD - Rowing is Passion PART1

Most of you Guys already watched "Rowing is Passion" Part 1. I want to give you an insight how we produced this clip. Here are some facts about the project „ROWING IS PASSION“:
It was in 2012 when, Herbert the rowing coach from our Club ask me to make a video about rowing. He told me that he is really impressed by my videos he watched. It’s my hobby to film and edit movies, so I was really excited about this idea.
Some days before we meet again. We collect some ideas for the video. We watched some videos online for example “Bis ins Koma” (a film about a German boat) and the rowing sequence from the “Social network”, but soon we found out, that there are not that much videos online concerning rowing.
The actual purpose for “Rowing is Passion” was to go in schools near our city and show young kids the video to motivate them and involve rowing in Austria. But afterwards we saw, that only a few videos are online, so we decided to publish the clip. Everybody should see this “motivation” rowing video, everyone should suddenly feel the passion of rowing and go out on the water and enjoy this sport.

list of our ideas we had before we started recording and editing the video:

Intro:
  • time-lapse video for the beginning (2 times)
  • Slider video of the course
  • flight with a model airplane over the course
Beginning
  • Door closed- guys come in! (depth of field in the front of the rowing boat)
  • Go out of the boats house – video from above
  • GoPro on the rudder
  • MACRO sequences
  • Push away
Action Part
  • High Shutter speed – some sequences form the side
  • Boat tip
  • Depth of field / face
  • A circular drive with the motorboat around a rowing boat
  • telescopic Pole with GoPro
  • with a model plan over the heads of the athletes Camera on the head

We also made a list, what we need for recording the video:

DSLR Cameras:
  • Canon 5D Mark III
  • 2 x Canon 550D (also my Cam)
  • Nikon D5100
Lenses:
  • Canon EF 70-200mm 1:2,8L IS USM
  • Canon EF 24-105mm 1:4,0 L IS USM
  • 2 x Canon EF 17-40mm/1:4,0 L USM
  • Canon EF 100mm 2,8 L IS USM Macro
  • Canon EF 50mm 1:1.8 II v
  • Tamron AF 17-50mm 2,8 XR Di II LD ASL
  • Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85 mm 1:1,8G
Other Stuff:
  • 4 x GoPro HD Hero 1 + 2
  • Dicapac WP-S10 Outdoor-/ Underwater SLR
  • Model airplanes
  • telescopic Pole (6m)

On the 25th of August (2012) we started the Project at 8 o’clock in the morning. I was really surprised that 50 athletes were at the course. Everybody from the club was here- athletes of every age group. Of course that was more motivation for all of us to make a good video. We started with the men’s eight. We filmed how they got into their boat. Afterwards, they practiced their training and we had time enough for all the other boat types. We filmed with the GoPro cameras on the model-airplane and on the telescope stick. We tried to get as many shots as possible to have more raw materials for editing. In the afternoon at 3 o’clock we finished recording. So my real job began: editing all the material and bringing out the best of it.
By the way: thanks to all, that were present and helped us. Thanks to all athletes takeing time for filming. We decided to record all video in 720p and 60fps – this gives us more flexibility with Slow motion shots!

Editing!

The next week I watched all the raw material we recorded and I was thinking about the music I should take. Then I started the editing! I used Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and Adobe After Effects CS5 for cutting and editing, the wasteful point was the video stabilization, because most of the material we filmed on the motorboat and we got out a lot of shaky footage! This takes so much time, I tried some automatically plugins but they didn’t produce the result I was thinking of, so I decided to stabilize all footage by my own with After Effects and Motion Tracking! Damn, this took me a lot of hours.
The last point was the color correcting! That was a bit of a problem! Because we had different Cameras! The Canon produces different colors than the Nikon and the GoPro Cams. So I tried to bring all the footage in a line. I changed brightness and contrast a little bit, played with the luminescence curve and RGB- Curve and so we got the video you are watching right now.
I have a lot more footage, which is not in the main video- Check it out in the BTS (Behind the scenes) video.

Finally I want to give you a short overview about the statistics - it is very gratifying that we have a constant view growth after all the years:

Hello World - Website ONLINE

Welcome to the brand-new Rowing is Passion Homepage. I think it is nearly 2 years over since the Facebook fanpage got online.
Most of you know the name “Rowing is Passion” comes from the Youtube Video, which gone viral (concerning rowing videos). As you can imagine it is a lot of work to produce a clip like that, so I decided to work on smaller faster projects – and so I published the facebook fanpage. I really enjoy it when people share a fascination of a sport. Believe it or not, I’m not a rower, I practicing canoeing.
On this homepage, blog or however you want to call it I will publish Videos, Photos and everything else concerning rowing. Please enjoy it, take time to look through and feel free to share. And by the way, sorry for my bad English.

1929 Mercedes-Benz CMC SSK Replica

1929 Classic Motor Carriages Gazelle SSK

1929 Classic Motor Carriages Gazelle SSK

Original Classic Motor Carriages Gazelle with only 5,364 original miles!  A wonderfully kept example from the largest replica manufacturer in the United States throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s.  The SSK Gazelle was a real success story and a big seller.  This factory built unit was delivered turn-key ready in 1985 and continues to run wonderfully.  Mostly comprised of Ford components and drivetrain, it couldn’t be easier to enjoy and service!  A real treat to drive and complete with all accessories, manuals, and even the original CMC brochure!
Classic Motor Carriages located in Miami, FL once represented one the largest replica car manufacturers in the United Stated throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s. Early on, they were most recognized for producing a 1957 Porsche Speedster, 1953 MG-TD, and 1929 Mercedes SSK replicas. Their Mercedes was officially known and advertised as the Gazelle.  Built on a heavy-duty tubular frame with 98” wheelbase, and weighing in at just 2200 lbs, these sporty roadsters offer an exciting ride, and surprising spacious cabin!
This 1929 Gazelle is finished in Classic Tan with Brown fenders accented wonderfully with tan pinstripe and matching Tan vinyl interior and convertible top! Options include Ford’s dependable 2.3L inline 4-cylinder engine with performance header, automatic transmission, 8” rear end with 3.00:1 gear ratio, Mustang II independent front suspension with rack & pinion steering and disc brakes, 14” Western wire spoke wheel covers with matching rear-mounted spare, 1” radial white wall tires measuring 195/75R14, wood dash and Grant GT wood steering wheel, Vintage Reproduction gauges providing full instrumentation, intermittent wipers, AM/FM/Cassette audio system, Trumpet horns, front badge bar presenting three badges (Germany, Mercedes Benz, and America), rearview mirror, yellow fog lamps, and front lap belts!
Early Gazelles such as this one were likely factory built, turn key examples. Once Classic Motor Carriages learned it was easier and more cost effective to sell the cars in kit form, they established some distributors nationally for parts and final assembly.  Our car comes with an original title date of June 25th, 1985.  Complete with all accessories including trunk mounted luggage rack, leather hood strap, boot cover, tonneau cover, original top, frame, & side curtains!  It also comes with a complete assembly manual and original CMC factory brochure included as well.  These factory cars were finished with odometer readings in kilometers, and this example has traveled just 8,633 kms (5,364 miles) from new!  Documented as having only 3 former owners, we have no doubts it’s accurate on this pampered Gazelle!  Each of these past owners took great care of the car and drove it only sparingly.  And it is officially titled as a 1929 model year Mercedes Benz.  Please feel free to call with any additional questions or to inspect this very unique car in person!  Thanks for looking!
