P0481 Cooling Fan 2 Control Circuit Malfunction

Error code P0481 indicates a problem with the control circuit of the second cooling fan in the vehicle's cooling system. The cooling fans help to maintain proper engine temperature by circulating air over the radiator and condenser. When the engine control module (ECM) detects that the signal from the control circuit of the second cooling fan is outside the expected range, it will trigger the P0481 code.

The following are some possible causes of the P0481 error code:

  1. Failed cooling fan motor: The cooling fan motor may have failed and is not responding to the control signal from the ECM.

  2. Faulty cooling fan relay: A faulty cooling fan relay may prevent the cooling fan from operating.

  3. Wiring issues: Wiring problems such as loose connections, damaged wires, or corroded terminals can prevent the control signal from reaching the cooling fan motor.

  4. Failed ECM: In rare cases, a failed ECM may be the cause of the P0481 error code.

To fix the P0481 code, follow these steps:

  1. Inspect the cooling fan motor to determine if it is working correctly. If it has failed, replace it.

  2. Check the cooling fan relay to ensure that it is functioning correctly. If it is not, replace it.

  3. Inspect the wiring and connections for damage, corrosion, or looseness, and repair as necessary.

  4. Clear the error codes and test the vehicle to confirm that the issue has been resolved.

  5. If the problem persists, the issue may be with the ECM, and it may need to be replaced.
