80,985, Will Be, Too

Color us disappointed. Jaguar isn鈥檛 planning a BMW M3-fighting XE SVR supersedan after all. There were hints that such a thing might follow on the heels of the limited-run XE SV Project 8, revealed last year as an extreme and exclusive high-performance creation from the company鈥檚 Special Vehicle Operations division. Despite our past speculations (and hopes) about the XE SVR, a spokesperson for SVO confirmed that the ultra-exclusive Project 8鈥攐f which only 300 copies will be sold worldwide鈥攚ill be the only V-8-powered edition of the compact sports sedan. Senior programs manager for SVO Duncan Smith emphasized that the division wants to differentiate itself from the likes of BMW M and Mercedes-AMG, meaning that it tailors projects to fit each individual car it works on. 鈥淭he Project 8 was the extreme embodiment of what the XE could do,鈥?he explained. 188,495 base price and ultra-exclusive status (it鈥檚 nearly sold out at this point). 53,270, as the hottest version of the sedan. 80,985, will be, too.

Volkswagen has announced that a new limited edition Passat R-Line estate will debut at this year鈥檚 Geneva Motor Show. Production will be restricted to just 2,000 units when it reaches the European market in May, fielding a choice of two engines and a range of R-Line design tweaks and trims. Buyers will be able to choose from either a 233bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel or a 264bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Both powertrains are mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission and Volkswagen鈥檚 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. Exterior updates for the new Passat R-Line estate include a set of gloss black 19-inch alloy wheels, a new rear diffuser, new LED Matrix headlights, black mirror caps, a black roof and smoked LED tail lights. Each model will be finished in Volkswagen鈥檚 鈥淢oonstone Grey鈥?paint. The most significant technology update for the Passat R-Line is the addition of Volkswagen鈥檚 new Travel Assist system. This semi-autonomous driving mode allows the car to assume control of its own steering, brakes, and throttle at speeds up to 130mph, providing the driver鈥檚 hands are on the wheel. It uses the car鈥檚 existing safety technology (such as Front Assist for detecting obstacles and Park Assist for steering control) to monitor the road. Whether or not the Passat R-Line estate will make it to the UK is yet to be confirmed. Pricing and full specification for the new model will likely be released after the new model鈥檚 official debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

It鈥檚 no secret that new-car buyers are shunning sedans as they instead flock to SUVs and crossovers, and that鈥檚 true at Cadillac as well. Unfortunately, the division鈥檚 revitalization strategy has relied heavily on traditional four-doors鈥攖he redesigned CTS, the ATS, and the CT6鈥攁nd sales have been weak. Speaking to Reuters, Cadillac chief Johan de Nysschen acknowledged that a 鈥渞ealignment鈥?is in order. And while several familiar nameplates won鈥檛 be renewed鈥攊ncluding the ATS, the CTS, and the XTS鈥攖his isn鈥檛 quite the full turn toward crossovers that some are suggesting. Reading between the lines, one sees that Cadillac鈥檚 car count drops only from four to three, while the division adds two new crossovers. In the report, de Nysschen says that the ATS and the CTS won鈥檛 live beyond the current-generation cars, which reach the end of the road in 2019. But then he says that a new sedan, the CT5, will appear. On the crossover/SUV side, we鈥檝e known for a while that a smaller-than-XT5 model is coming, and that it鈥檚 taking the name XT4. A second entry presumably would fill the three-row-crossover niche, which has been empty since the demise of the original SRX. Whether that model will be derived from the CT6 components set or whether it would be spun off the same architecture as the Chevrolet Traverse/GMC Acadia/Buick Enclave is not yet known. What is a sure bet is that Cadillac isn鈥檛 going to touch the Escalade, as the big beast is still the division鈥檚 major source of profits.

The Porsche Boxster has an incomparable balance and natural agility. The flat six motor, with its weight low down is mounted in the middle of the car for perfect balance. There is no 'bad' year to buy. Also for the 2000 model year a large engined Porsche Boxster 3.2 S was introduced. These are super sports cars with a 6 speed manual gearbox or tiptronic. They have bigger brakes, stiffer suspension and 250 hp. I have used all the models, used them for everything; shopping, for track days, commuting, back road fun and trans European dash's, and they have never failed to impress. A Porsche Boxster is a proper sports car. Its a fun drive, highly capable, very practical and ever inch a Porsche. Find out much more by clicking through to the next page link at the bottom of this page. For the 2005 model year Porsche re launched the Boxster, almost every detail of changed.
