What's the Porsche Macan like to drive? The cabin is commendably quiet, outside of wind noise at freeway speeds, and the ride is absolutely sublime, gliding over bumps and imperfections without you really even noticing. The way the smaller turbocharged engine in the base Macan works makes a lot of sense in the city, too. While it runs out of puff as you鈥檙e approaching freeway pace, there鈥檚 plenty of urgency at low speeds, which is a bonus for pulling away from lights and the like. Stepping up to the S adds grunt, of course, and the extra urge feels a better fit for the overall dynamics of the car, able to punch its way out of corners with an easy-breeziness. Perhaps most impressively, even in this most un-Porsche-like of Porsches, there is much fun to be had on the right twisting road. Hitting the Sport button weights up the steering and changes the gear shift points, of course, but even without it the Macan feels super accomplished. There鈥檚 very little body roll, it鈥檚 well balanced, the steering is natural and predictable, and so it happily flows between bends. Is it truly sports car-like? Obviously not. But it is very sports SUV-like, which surely ticks the box on a car like this.
