Nissan To Replace Renault In Formula E For 2019/19 Season
Nissan has confirmed it will enter Formula E from the 2018-19 season onwards, joining a growing list of major manufactures committing to the all-electric single seater racing series. Nissan鈥檚 entry will coincide with the withdrawal of Renault from the sport, as the Renault-Nissan alliance sees no need for its two flagship brands to compete against each other. However, Nissan will lean on Renault鈥檚 expertise and experience to get going in the sport, and will inherit Renault鈥檚 place as a partner to the e-dams team. The all-electric championship will feature new rules next year, with the introduction of a new chassis and new battery specifications. The Japanese firm says that its impending Formula E entry will serve as a springboard to showcase its electric vehicle strategy. The timing of the announcement coincides with the launch of the new second generation Leaf EV, plus the reveal of two all-new electric concepts - the hot Leaf Nismo and the new IMx concept, which previews an upcoming electric SUV. Nissan is the first Japanese brand to enter Formula E, and will compete against a handful of top European manufacturers also readying entries such as BMW, Audi, Porsche and Mercedes. Jaguar is already in the sport, while Citroen maintains an interest through the DS Virgin Racing team. Is Formula E becoming more relevant for big manufacturers than Formula 1? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.
Mounted to the steering wheel, these two units have a perfect action that feels as sharp and purposeful as the PDK's upshifts. But focusing exclusively on the Macan's performance misses some of the most substantial improvements to Porsche鈥檚 entry-level model. What the cabin does get is more cohesion. The addition of a larger screen necessitated a new home for the air vents - Porsche flipped them 90 degrees and positioned the twin vents below the larger display. The result is that the 10.9-inch screen feels like a part of the dash, rather than something that an unimaginative designer simply tacked on. The change also allows the eye to move more naturally from the centre display to the instrument cluster. The only thing separating the two is a simple, subtle strip of the selected dash inlay and aluminium trim. And once the driver plants their eyes on the twin displays of the mostly digital gauge cluster, they can take a solid grip on a new, 911-derived GT steering wheel. Thick, properly bolstered, and finished in Alcantara suede, this steering wheel has no business being on a crossover, but we're thrilled it鈥檚 there.
The optional wheel is a delight to work, helping the driver of even the base Macan get into the mood for some corner carving. This steering wheel has no business being on a crossover, but we're thrilled it鈥檚 there. By now, we've recommended a few particular options. You want the Sport Chrono Package, and you should at least consider the air suspension. And the GT steering wheel is neat, too. But as with so many Porsches, it's easy to get into trouble with the options catalogue. Prices for the base Macan start at 拢46,344, but if you want the Macan S, you're on the hook for 拢48,750. And if you want something like the Chalk coloured car featured in our gallery, plan on spending a good bit more. Playing around with the Porsche UK configurator we were able to easily build 拢40,000 in optional extras. Spending over 拢90,000 for a compact crossover is no small ask, but with a little more restraint, it's entirely possible to build a Macan S that even the most demanding customer can happily drive every day. The 2019 Porsche Macan is more composed and comfortable, but it's equally able to dance on a twisty road. If the suspension was all that Porsche had changed, we'd be satisfied. That the new Macan adds smarter, better-integrated technology and extra power along with a fresh look is simply a happy bonus. If you were worried that Porsche's smallest CUV was too hardcore for family work, the 2019 Macan will change your mind.
Many car manufacturers are pulling out of the large family car sector at speed, but one maker that鈥檚 bucking the trend is Peugeot. While the French marque has turned itself into an SUV brand of late with its 2008, 3008 and 5008 models, this new 508 Fastback is a return to the big family car market. The first here is the updated Kia Optima saloon, which boasts a smarter look and a new 1.6 diesel engine. That puts both these new models up against our class favourite, the Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport. This car has value on its side, but also delivers massive practicality, good tech and an efficient but punchy turbodiesel powertrain. SUVs are here to stay, but it鈥檚 nice to know that there鈥檚 still an alternative for family motoring. The question is, which model of the three is the best bet if you don鈥檛 want to buy a crossover?
After injecting its renewed SUV line-up with vitality, Peugeot has turned its attention to its family model, with this new 508 Fastback. We鈥檙e testing it here in 1.5-litre BlueHDi 130 Allure trim, which starts from a relatively pricey 拢26,339. Diesel has had a bad press recently, but continuous development from Peugeot means this relatively new 1.5 BlueHDi motor is an accomplished unit. With 129bhp and 300Nm of torque it鈥檚 punchy, despite the latter figure being 20Nm down on its rivals鈥? This showed at the track, where the 508 was the slowest car from 0-60mph, taking 10.5 seconds, but it also wasn鈥檛 as flexible in gear. With 129bhp and 300Nm of torque it鈥檚 down on its rivals鈥? which means the Peugeot isn鈥檛 quite as punchy. As with many Peugeots, the six-speed manual transmission isn鈥檛 the greatest. The Kia and Vauxhall鈥檚 boxes both feel sweeter when shifting; the 508鈥檚 change feels crunchy, especially if you try to shift too quickly, so it鈥檚 better to leave the engine in gear, which promotes a relaxed driving style.

Porsche Macan Vs Jaguar F-Pace
The Porsche Macan SUV arrived in 2014 to great fanfare. Complementing the Cayenne in the German brand鈥檚 SUV range, it opened up Porsche ownership to an even wider range of buyers - but it earned its stripes on merit. The original was a peach to drive, with a premium image that meant owners loved it. There was a good choice of powertrains, too, with V6 petrol and diesel models offering differing performance. However, diesel is no more in the updated Macan line-up. Instead, the most efficient model is now this 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit. It was available on special order in the old car, but few UK buyers took up the option. With this renewed focus on petrol power, the facelifted Macan is set to be much more popular. The Porsche has always been an SUV for keen drivers, so its main competitor is clearly the Jaguar F-Pace - another premium package that focuses on petrol-powered driving enjoyment mixed with quality, practicality and equipment. This 2.0-litre car is the entry-level model in the new Macan range.
Prices start from 拢46,344, so it鈥檚 well matched to the F-Pace. However, it鈥檒l have to live up to the Jag鈥檚 new technology, too. Let鈥檚 find out how much of an improved package the Porsche is. Under the skin, the Macan still uses the same platform, so there are no huge changes here. That means the basic suspension layout remains, with double wishbones at the front and a multi-link set-up at the rear. However, there are lighter but firmer springs, which are claimed to improve handling without compromising comfort. Other alterations ensure it鈥檚 even more refined. The optional Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management (PASM) function is probably worth its 拢816 cost to broaden the Macan鈥檚 ability. The 2.0-litre unit is the same basic motor as that fitted to VW鈥檚 Golf GTI Performance, with a particulate filter in the exhaust for this updated car. There鈥檚 242bhp, 370Nm of torque and a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox, only here it sends power to all four wheels. There are more changes inside the Porsche - the most important of which is the new 10.9-inch infotainment screen.
It鈥檚 similar in appearance and operation to the units in the Panamera, Cayenne and the latest 911, and it鈥檚 here where the new Macan gets its largest technology update. The rest of the cabin is similar to its predecessor鈥檚, which means even in this entry-level car quality is impressive. The centre console still features a few too many buttons and switches compared with the simpler set-up in Porsche鈥檚 newer models, though. You get a good standard of basic kit, with sat-nav, Apple CarPlay, DAB, 18-inch alloys, LED lights, cruise and climate control, a power tailgate and parking sensors. However, features such as a full-leather interior are extra, at 拢1,044, while heated seats cost 拢294. Both are standard on the Jag, but the Macan鈥檚 cabin quality still feels stronger than the F-Pace鈥檚. The Macan is still the best-driving car of its type, even with this smaller, less powerful engine. Its steering has a lovely weight and just the right rate of response for a car of this size and bulk.
That鈥檚 because those suspension tweaks have yielded genuinely hot hatch-bothering grip. It鈥檚 allied to the four-wheel drive, which isn鈥檛 flummoxed by slippery conditions, and which easily and evenly distributes power to where it鈥檚 needed. Traction is superb and the way the system shuffles the motive force around helps agility. It鈥檚 a Macan trait, and the Jag can鈥檛 match this car鈥檚 handling ability. On the firmest suspension setting roll is nicely contained, but the ride does take on a less composed edge. The middle mode is a better bet for sporty driving, while the default comfort setting means the Macan glides more over the road. On optional 20-inch alloys you do feel thumps and bumps, but they鈥檙e still nicely dealt with and body movement is well curtailed. It still feels more dynamic than the Jag, even if it sometimes sacrifices a little of the bigger F-Pace鈥檚 ride comfort. There should be no worries about performance. The 2.0-litre engine isn鈥檛 the most musical, but it delivers the goods.

Massive Takata Airbag Recall: Everything You Need To Know, Including Full List Of Affected Vehicles
The automotive world and beyond is buzzing about the massive airbag recall covering many millions of vehicles in the U.S. Here鈥檚 what you need to know about the problem; which vehicles may have the defective, shrapnel-shooting inflator parts from Japanese supplier Takata; and what to do if your vehicle is one of them. The issue involves defective inflator and propellent devices that may deploy improperly in the event of a crash, shooting metal fragments into vehicle occupants. Approximately 42 million vehicles are potentially affected in the United States, and at least 7 million have been recalled worldwide. Another major recall issued on October 20 expanded the affected vehicles across several brands. For its part, Toyota said it would begin to replace defective passenger-side inflators starting October 25; if parts are unavailable, however, it has advised its dealers to disable the airbags and affix 鈥淒o Not Sit Here鈥?messages to the dashboard.
While Toyota says there have been no related injuries or deaths involving its vehicles, a New York Times report in September found a total of at least 139 reported injuries across all automakers. In particular, there have been at least two deaths and 30 injuries in Honda vehicles (UPDATE 12/12/2016: These figures are now verified as 11 deaths and 184 injuries in the U.S., as detailed in the updates below). Takata first said that propellant chemicals were mishandled and improperly stored during assembly, which supposedly caused the metal airbag inflators to burst open due to excessive pressure inside. In July, the company blamed humid weather and spurred additional recalls. According to documents reviewed by Reuters, Takata says that rust, bad welds, and even chewing gum dropped into at least one inflator are also at fault. The same documents show that in 2002, Takata鈥檚 plant in Mexico allowed a defect rate that was 鈥渟ix to eight times above鈥?acceptable limits, or roughly 60 to 80 defective parts for every 1 million airbag inflators shipped.
The company鈥檚 study has yet to reach a final conclusion and report the findings to NHTSA. UPDATE 11/7/2014, 9:44 a.m.: The New York Times has published a report suggesting that Takata knew about the airbag issues in 2004, conducting secret tests off work hours to verify the problem. The results confirmed major issues with the inflators, and engineers quickly began researching a solution. But instead of notifying federal safety regulators and moving forward with fixes, Takata executives ordered its engineers to destroy the data and dispose of the physical evidence. This occurred a full four years before Takata publicly acknowledged the problem. UPDATE 11/7/2014, 5:29 p.m.: Two U.S. Senators have now called for the Department of Justice to open a criminal investigation on this matter. Read more about these developments on this C/D page. NHTSA to address a cushion-tearing issue unrelated to inflator rupturing,鈥?and that it 鈥渄id not suppress any test results showing cracking or rupturing in the inflators,鈥?whether to automakers such as Honda or to NHTSA.
For its story about Takata鈥檚 statement, the Times spoke again with one of its two sources for the November 6 article. That anonymous person is quoted as saying: 鈥淲hat Takata says is not true . On November 12, we reported about a change in Takata鈥檚 chemical makeup of its airbag propellant, which the company says is unrelated to the ongoing recall situation. UPDATE 11/18/2014, 6:10 p.m.: In light of a recent airbag failure in a 2007 Ford Mustang in North Carolina鈥攚hich was not part of the original 鈥渉igh-humidity areas鈥?Takata recall鈥攖he U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is calling for a nationwide recall of cars equipped with the defective Takata driver鈥檚-side airbags. UPDATE 11/20/2014, 5:35 p.m.: Automakers, officials from Takata, and motorists injured by defective airbags met for a hearing with Congress. NHTSA was accused of not responding quickly enough to the Takata airbag situation, and automakers also took heat for being slow with fixes. As of now, the recalls remain regional, but it seems only a matter of time before they鈥檙e blanketed nationwide.

Rent the Porsche 911 Carrera and drive a modern classic, blending timeless design into a thoroughly modern package. This example is one of the lightest 991 vehicles around, increasing the nimbleness of an already potent sports car. The 3.4L flat six delivers a respectable 350hp. The normally aspirated unit, a rarity in today鈥檚 sports cars, provides a sharp and a communicative response that leads to confidence in any corner. An essential 911 trait, the engine is located in the rear, providing great weight distribution during corner entry. All power is routed through a PDK (dual clutch) transmission, which is one of the best units we鈥檝e experienced. The transmission knows which gear to be in any situation, providing instantaneous downshifts (downshift 3 gears in milliseconds!) and smooth city driving. Performance wise, the transmission鈥檚 quick shifts help the 991 Carrera sprint to 60mph in a Porsche conservative 4.6 seconds. The interior is comfortable, with supportive seats and a well laid out dashboard. The exhaust noise emitted in the cabin is completely natural without droning you鈥檙e your conversation. Subtle touches include specific 50th Anniversary emblems marking Porsche鈥檚 feat. We recommend the Porsche 911 Carrera for any special occasion you have in mind. The car is brisk enough to take on Los Angeles back roads, yet supple enough to enjoy wine country in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The navigation system assists the driver to direction of the destination address. Smartphone connectivity is now considered a must in cars. So, Macan doesn鈥檛 miss on this one. You can easily connect iPhones via AppleCarPlay and android smartphones through Android Auto.
The seats are super comfortable and elegantly designed. High quality materials are used throughout the cabin. It has been a norm for Porsche to provide utmost comfort to its customers; something that they never compromise on. You can also customize the interior thee and color by paying a little extra. The auto manufacturer has a range to offer. The steering wheel is so light that it does not make driving look like a chore. Rather, it is more fun. The wheel is also very responsive so that you do not have to make extra effort. The driver鈥檚 assistance kit is a must to ensure safe and trouble free driving experience. Lane changing alert system is installed which warns the driver whenever there is abrupt shifting between lanes. Parking sensors are also present to help the driver while parking and reversing the car. All the standard safety features are also being incorporated in the standard version of the car. Airbags for instance, are present to protect the passengers in case of an emergency situation. Roadside assistance is also provided.

All New Volkswagen Bora
The very first photos of the all-new Volkswagen Bora sedan for China. It stands on the same MQB platform, and is almost exactly the same size, as the new Volkswagen Lavida Plus. The bora is made in China by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. New Bora: 4663/1815/1473 mm, and wheelbase is 2688 mm. Lavida Plus: 4670/1806/1474 mm, and wheelbase is 2688 mm. Current Bora: 4562/1739/1468 mm, and wheelbase is 2614 mm. Design is a huge improvement over the current car, which had been facelifted so many times it had become faceless. The new Bora looks modern, clean, and even a bit sporty. Volkswagen will not put any new engines under the bonnet. The 1.5 gets six horses more for 116, and the 1.4 turbo remains at 150. This non-TSI turbo engine has been used by Volkswagen in China for almost ten years now. Gearboxes are unchanged as well: a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT, but the old 5-speed manual has been deleted. Even more strangely; the 5-speed has not been deleted for the Lavida Plus. The new Volkswagen Bora will hit the Chinese car market in September. Price will start around 115.000 yuan. The current Bora will continue until then, and probably a little bit longer.
This freed up its engineers to work on future road car engines for Jaguar. In March 1965 Motor Sport correspondent Denis Jenkinson took deliver of a Carmen red FHC, FPL 660C, a 4.2-litre E-type. Having test driven the new improved 4.2-litre E-type, and been impressed by the revised car, Denis Jenkinson took the plunge and ordered one. He related: 鈥楢s soon as I had the car I had gone over it with a set of spanners, tweaking everything up just that little bit tighter than it had been done in the factory. While all this was going on, Denis Jenkinson was acquainting himself with his new E-type. This was of course in the era before speed limits were imposed on motorists and before the 1973 oil crisis. Jenkinson continued, 鈥楾he next trip was a bit more serious, for it was straight down to Sicily, putting in an easy 500-600 miles a day. The ride and comfort of the E-type was first class, the seats came up to all the claims made by Jaguar when they were introduced. Back in the UK the government had decided to crack down on this type of high speed motoring.
On 24th November 1965, the British government imposed a 70mph speed limit, initially for four months, but now in force for over 40 years. Still this did not affect 鈥楯enks鈥?on the continent. 鈥楢 pretty regular trip was down the Autostrada from Milan to Modena, the home of Maserati and Ferrari among lots of other things. 2 E-type was announced. Right from the E-type鈥檚 earliest days, Sir William Lyons had demanded more room inside, and after a five-year gestation period, the finished article appeared. 2 also featured a taller windscreen, longer doors and room in the back for two children. It was also available with a three speed Borg-Warner model 8 automatic transmission. The style was penned by Bob Blake. 2 was the first alteration to the E-type鈥檚 form, and although stylistically it was less of a success, from a business point of view it made perfect sense. 2 proving to be the most popular model.
2 FHC automatic. Top speed was 136.2mph and its 0-60mph time was 8.9seconds. Autocar, meanwhile, tested a manual version and reached a terminal velocity of 139mph and and completed the 0-60mph dash in 7.4 seconds. On 11 July 1966, Jaguar and the British Motor Corporation announced they were merging to form British Motor Holdings. Effectively a takeover of Jaguar, but allowing Sir William Lyons to maintain control of his company. With two brilliant engineering teams headed by William Heynes and Sir Alec Issigonis, how could they fail? 2 E-type seemed to point the way to the future for the Jaguar sports car. Behind the scenes, Jaguar worked on its 60-degree modular V8 and V12 engines with communized parts. These were intended for a new generation of cars including the XJ21 project, which was the planned E-type replacement. 2. Jaguar was also looking at developing a smaller sports car using the 2.5-litre Daimler V8, a 3-litre XK engine, or the in-development 3.5-litre V8. The company was certainly ambitious, but its financial resources made such goals unobtainable.

Porsche Cayenne, With A 3.0-litre Engine Below The Hood That Displaces 2967cc
Porsche Cayenne - Porsche, the German automotive maker has produces many subtle models for the world automobile market. One such enigmatic model developed by this maker is none aside from Porsche Cayenne. SUV model that comes in an exceedingly total of 2 gas and diesel variants. On the opposite hand, the manufacturer is aiming to introduce a hybrid version, which can facilitate this SUV to be a lot of competitive within the phase. At present, the manufacturer is providing this whole series in India as a totally intrinsic unit (CBU), that is that the reason why it's therefore expensive within the market. 3.0-litre mill, whereas the opposite variant is supplied with and a 4.1-litre engine. 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission system casing. Cayenne S trim is fitted with a 3.6-litre motor and therefore the Turbo trim homes a 4806cc mill below the hood. This luxury SUV is all concerning advanced technology, sheer luxury and noteworthy performance all at once makes it a stand out performing artist in its category. This model series is endued with a complicated Porsche traction management system that works together with active all-wheel drive mechanism that improve the lightness by reducing the loss of traction.
It鈥檚 not until you leave Belmont and draw alongside the vast reservoir that shares its name that the A675 really delivers its stunning conclusion. The road skirts around its extremities before slicing over its west corner, but it is the glorious sweeping panorama of the moorland that makes you want to cruise and not sprint. The road flows with the land as sweetly as the water, rarely breaking into anything approaching a tight curve. Like all the best driving roads, the B5359/A535 combo keeps its powder dry. If anything the B-road plays second fiddle to the A-road in this duo. Not that the former disappoints in any way; it is the classic example of the breed, picking its way between the peaks and linking the towns while blending one topographical feature into another with a sleight of hand. Tightly lined by trees, it only offers the occasional snatched glance of what lies beyond before passing underneath the main railway line to Crewe, then changing status at Chelford.
It鈥檚 hard to believe the 535 is worthy of its A-road tag as it leaves Chelford; the confines are so tight, it鈥檚 as if it was dropped into a thicket of trees from a great height. Gradually it opens out into near-arrow straights, the view clearing in tandem with it as the trees thin out past the vast expanse of Farmwood Pool, flashes of blue beyond the swathes of green. The flowing nature of the road encourages a steady rather than brisk pace, something that suits the e-Golf perfectly. It becomes a pleasure to keep moving with minimal energy usage, skimming the accelerator to maintain speed before sending it back with a well-judged lift or touch of the brakes. It feels like you鈥檙e beating the system, getting spent energy back to propel you onwards while everyone else sticks rigidly to 19th Century technology. As if to reinforce the point, the A535 takes you past the jaw-dropping spectacle of Jodrell Bank. The third-largest steerable radio telescope in the world, it towers 50 metres above its surroundings but at the same sits comfortably within them, constantly looking above the Earth to better understand universal phenomena. The A535 continues beyond Jodrell to its natural conclusion at Holmes Chapel, but this incredible feat of engineering is worth a lengthy pause. As a feat of engineering, it deserves celebration and recognition; serving as a timely reminder of how technological progress can have a positive influence on the planet. The e-Golf is the last vehicle to leave the car park before the visitor鈥檚 park closes for the night, and it seems entirely appropriate that it does so silently, powered by energy delivered by the brightest star in our galaxy.
Our ST-Line test car had a black headlining, however, which made it feel more cramped than the lighter fabric in Titanium cars. Fortunately, going for the sportier ST-Line trim doesn鈥檛 significantly damage ride quality, which remains well damped even on our car鈥檚 17-inch wheels. Matched to the new 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, this new Focus Estate is an excellent motorway car. We鈥檇 still recommend one of the small capacity petrol engines to lower-mileage motorists, but that diesel engine will undoubtaedly appeal to high-mileage business users. Ford claims a WLTP-rated 76.3mpg and super-low 97g/km CO2 emissions. That puts it in the 24 per cent Benefit in Kind (BiK) tax bracket, while a comparable Skoda sits one band higher. Those numbers do come at the expense of performance, however. While on paper it looks punchy enough (0-62mph takes 10.3 seconds), you have to work the EcoBlue鈥檚 six-speed gearbox to get the best out of it. The long gearing means you鈥檒l find yourself sitting in second or third around town, with sixth reservered almost exclusively for higher-speed motorway driving. And yet the Focus Estate is just as fun to drive as the hatch on which it is based. The steering is sharp and the chassis feels just as agile in spite of the added length.

Can't find a new 2019 Porsche Cayennes you want in your area? Consider a broader search. Should I lease or buy a 2019 Porsche Cayenne? Is it better to lease or buy a car? Ask most people and they'll probably tell you that car buying is the way to go. And from a financial perspective, it's true, provided you're willing to make higher monthly payments, pay off the loan in full and keep the car for a few years. Leasing, on the other hand, can be a less expensive option on a month-to-month basis. It's also good if you're someone who likes to drive a new car every three years or so.
Instead, it leans heavily on its torque to be remarkably consistent at picking up fuss-free pace, regardless of the gear, revs or the road ahead. Barely spinning much above 5,000rpm, the engine is silky smooth in its delivery and is hardly intrusive. Claimed fuel economy of 41.5mpg is impressive, too. The M50d doesn鈥檛 get the supple twin-axle air set-up available elsewhere in the X5 range, using an M Sport-developed adaptive steel spring arrangement instead. We tried the system in optional M Sport Professional form. It鈥檚 far from overly firm, though, striking a neat balance between keeping the X5鈥檚 huge, heavy body in check thanks to active body roll stabilisation, and remaining comfortable, even on the M50d鈥檚 huge 22-inch wheels. Opt for the Professional set-up and four-wheel steering is added. This is a bit less impressive; it feels a little inconsistent in action, and X5s without the four-wheel system offer a sweeter, more natural steer. Indeed, less is probably more in the case of the 拢70,000-plus M50d versus the less expensive 30d-badged models, which ultimately, is where our money would go. The biggest sign of change over the X5鈥檚 19-year lifespan is, quite simply, how much it has grown. This new model uses a new platform called Modular Longitudinal Platform, which it shares with the X3. However, there鈥檚 a genuine, visual gulf in size between BMW鈥檚 two longest-serving SUVs these days. You can even spec a third row in the new X5, turning it into a seven-seater. Elsewhere on the inside, there鈥檚 heaps of room up front and in the second row, so five adults will be very comfortable in the X5. The dashboard uses BMW鈥檚 latest interior scheme, with a much more angular look than before.
