The Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards are among the most coveted honors in the automotive industry, and the Best Brand and Best Luxury Brand trophies are the program's pinnacle prizes. With 10 models either taking a category or finishing in the top three, it's easy to see why Toyota has posted the proverbial "three-peat" in being named Best Brand for the third year in a row. In the overall list of top 10 vehicles for resale value, Toyota again took the top spot with its Tacoma. Third was the Tundra, and the 4Runner was fifth. Tacoma, Tundra and Highlander won their respective categories, while segment runners-up included the subcompact 2019 C-HR, the all-new 2019 RAV4, the 4Runner in the new off-road category and the Sienna minivan. Toyota's strength lies in its reputation for building high-quality vehicles with excellent quality reliability and durability. That translates to retained value, which means in the long run, ownership costs will be much lower. Porsche returns as the Best Luxury Brand for Best Resale Value, largely on the strength of its sedans and SUVs, for the third year in a row. The sterling performance by its category-winning Panamera and Macan models, along with runner-up status for its Cayenne SUV, helped the German automaker retain Best Luxury Brand honors. The sporty Macan reinforces Porsche's achievement by placing 10th on the top 10 vehicle list for retained value. Porsche's ability to pivot from building iconic sports cars to becoming a leader in luxury vehicle sales is remarkable. With the continued popularity of SUVs and further enhancements to its Panamera line, Porsche will likely remain a fierce competitor among luxury brands for top resale honors for years to come.
As seen with Alien, Spiderman, Transformers, Deadpool, Pirates of the Caribbean, Blade Runner and Guardians of the Galaxy, all our favorite things are getting a sequel or reboot and that includes the awesome Porsche Cayman GT4. As these recent spy photos show, it looks like the GT4 is coming back now that Porsche is done tinkering with the 911 GT3. While the Cayman was recently given a turbocharged flat-four engine (along with a new numerical name: 718) it鈥檚 likely that the high-speed editions of the mid-engined coupe will remain naturally aspirated. As always, a manual transmission will likely be the only one available. While the last Cayman GT4 used a 3.8-liter flat six, some rumors are saying this model will sport a bigger engine like the 4.0-liter six-cylinder used in the 911 GT3. It鈥檒l have to be detuned in this model so it doesn鈥檛 encroach on the 911鈥檚 territory, but expect it to make more than the 385 hp that the previous GT4 model had. If you need more proof that a new engine is in the works, the shoddy exhaust setup in this mule makes it seem the automaker is testing something different. Porsche is also working on the vehicle鈥檚 suspension, as the car is sporting foam in the wheel arches and looks unusually wide for a Cayman. And what better place to test a new lightweight mid-engined sports car than the world famous Nurburgring? Sports car fanatics went nuts for the previous lightweight GT4 and it sold out completely, so a new one will likely be just as popular. While a few questions remain, the most important ones are: when do we get one, and will it end up being called a GT4 or a GT4 RS?
After the first round of voting for the 2019 World Car Awards, the unexpected happened. Britain鈥檚 battered and bruised motor industry was, in effect, voted third on the planet for desirable, quality products that impress and satisfy the people who drive them. Or, to be more precise, four British cars - the Aston Martin Vantage, Jaguar鈥檚 E-Pace and I-Pace, plus the McLaren 720S - enabled the UK to proudly occupy that coveted third-place slot. We already knew these were world-class cars. It鈥檚 in NYC where Jaguar could find itself in a win, win, win situation by picking up the World Car of the Year (WCOTY), World Car Design and World Green Car gongs for the I-Pace. Aston and McLaren will slug it out for the World Performance Car title, while the underdog E-Pace could steal that World Car Design crown. In terms of proportions, this is the finest, most underrated little SUV I鈥檝e seen and driven in years. Don鈥檛 know how Jaguar does it for less than 拢30,000.
