2022 Honda Civic Hatchback Teased Shadily, Reveals Sleeker Form

Ahead of its global premiere, the all-new 2022 Honda Civic hatchback is being dangled in front of us. Honda released a teaser image of the five-door version of the 11th-generation Civic sedan, and the latest iteration of the popular compact hatchback will officially debut during a virtual concert event later this month.
Based on the partially concealed side profile photo, in which the new Honda Civic hatchback is backlit by a sunset or sunrise, we can make out its more refined body. It now has a straight beltline that stretches from the rear quarter panel all the way into the nose, much like the sedan. There is no roof spoiler; the backside appears less inflated and more slender compared to the rather clunky outgoing model.
The Civic hatchback will be manufactured in the U.S. for the first time at Honda's plant in Greensburg, Indiana. Honda did not disclose any further details about the trim grades or engine choices. However, the hatch is indeed available with a six-speed manual transmission, and is intended as the sportier alternative to the more sedate sedan.
We know that the new Civic sedan's LX and Sport trims get a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder mated to a continuously variable transmission. The base engine generates 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque. EX and Touring models come equipped with the 1.5-liter turbocharged I-4 producing 180 hp and 177 lb-ft. These engine options will likely carry over to the hatchback, again, with the additional option of a stick-shift transmission.
Honda plans to reveal the all-new Civic hatchback at its Civic Tour Remix virtual concert. It will feature a performance by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and actress H.E.R. with special guests R&B duo Majid Jordan. The event streams live on YouTube on Wednesday, June 23, at 6 p.m. Pacific time.
While pricing for the Civic hatchback is still under wraps, the entry-level Civic LX sedan starts at $22,695, with the top-end Touring model starting at $29,295, which hints at the price range we could expect from the hot hatch. Aimed at young buyers with an active lifestyle and featuring European-inspired exterior styling, the 2022 Honda Civic hatchback arrives at showroom floors sometime later this year.
