GigRower Virtual Rowing Championships – 23-26th April 2020

We are proud to introduce the first ever, GigRower Virtual Indoor Rowing Championships. Bring out your ergo from it’s upcoming summer hibernation, we aren’t finished yet.

As many are aware, with the current limitations we are unfortunately advised to have non-essential contact and many clubs have postponed their rowing schedule for the foreseeable. Why waste all that winter training? So we decided to bring the World Championships format to your home.

With many looking to fill the void of no on-water training, this is the perfect excuse to get back on the ergo.

We will have individual & crew categories – the crew categories will be calculated from your individual scores – we are just fine tuning the exact way it will work, but you will need a minimum number of people from a club to be entered into the crew rankings! A great way to do some virtual training with your crew mates.

We would love as many of you as possible to get involved! All abilities and from all clubs, like the Scillies its not just about who wins overall. You will be rightfully fighting within your own groups for honours.

When will it happen?

We plan to run the championships from the 23rd – 26th April.

What will I need to enter?

Just access to a Concept2 indoor rowing machine!

How will it work?

Set across 4 days, you will row a set timed distance each day, moving up and down the rankings until finals day, where you will battle it out to be top of your group.

Day 1 is seeding day. Much like the St Agnes race, this will be a slightly longer distance to row, and from here your initial position will be set into groups of 6 people.
Day 2 is the first of the shorter ‘nut rock’ races. Here you will already have an indication of where you stand on the leader board so will be fighting it to move up or stay in your group. Much like the World Champs, the top two from each group will move up for the next round, with the bottom two dropping a group.

Day 3 is the second nut rock distance. Some say that this is one of the most important races as it can seal your spot group or even gain you a promotion to a guaranteed higher standing…

Day 4. Finals day. Things just got real. Everyone is in a final. Be it in one of the lower groups, or the Champions elect group, you will be fighting for your final position and top spot.

How and where do I take part?

Anywhere you can use an ergo, be it at home or elsewhere (following any latest advice from the government)

Submissions will open from 6am and will be open until 9pm (5pm finals day). These are strict deadlines – any outside of this will be void.

How do I submit results?

Results will be submitted via an online form and screenshot of your Concept2 machine (complete with correct date). For any not able to use the form they can be emailed to info@gigrower.co.uk

When will results be posted?

Each set of results will be posted by Midnight on Race day bar finals day. Final results will be posted by 9pm. You have all day to row & submit your ergo! * only one entry per rower

I don’t gig row, can I still enter?

Yes! This is an event open to all. Tell your friends, family, even your dog. Let’s make this happen!

Looks great, where do I sign up?
