Ford Mustang Mach-E - Really? I always think I'm old, then I read these opinions from people who seem to be scared by electric vehicles and realize I'm not as old as you're thinking is! It's not a sinister plot! An internal combustion engine can NEVER come close to the efficiency of an electric motor. Everything else about the situation is economics. Its more than that. For me at least its about being able to work on your own vehicle. Personally I think with current technology only the plug-in hybrid makes sense for the vast majority of users. There's no reason the technology to make full EV's practical won't evolve but IMO it's not there yet unless you just want a vehicle for use locally and don't mind overpaying. Au contraire, If you are unable to see the point, c'est la vie. Ok. I'm not going to guess. Its more than that. For me at least its about being able to work on your own vehicle.
Current ICE cars are not really easy to work on either. I think its cool and the car is going to be simply awesome, but it still doesn't compete with Tesla. I just don't believe any of the big 3 are capable of ever getting there. Its not just a car with Tesla, its the entire business model that is fresh and unique. Sure, they have all sorts of snags (pesky thing called profitability and a egomaniac pig at the helm) but at least they don't have unions, dealerships, legacy costs, and decades of political favors to pay back. Tesla gives you warm fuzzy feeling up your leg? Dealerships aren't a bad thing, one of the things that holds Tesla back is the lack of support. Tesla is like Apple, all perception. 6 and km1125 like this. Current ICE cars are not really easy to work on either. Electric vehicles still need maintenance. I always cringe when Tesla fanboys try to say their cars need no maintenance. But then again, I think your avg Tesla buyer is not exactly knowledgeable about vehicles, they buy a car like they buy their Iphone.
97,000 as a percentage of overall cars sold last quarter is roughly about the same as visionary Preston Tucker sold in 1948. BTW, I would like to know where that 97,000 data came from. I read that Q3 Tesla sales were a measly 54,700, down BTW from the previous year. I suspect Tesla and Musk will go down about like Tucker and his cars did. Agreed completely. Please take my post only for the point it was intended to make. Riva1 said no one wants an electric car. The 97,000 produced in Q3 and the almost 1 million since inception would be strong evidence to the contrary. Tesla may or may not last, that wasn't part of my point. My point was only that "someone" out there is interested in them. The MASSIVE investments by other automakers (see Ford's 11 billion) are evidence of the same. I have no idea why he posted it, but the quote from Aubv bolsters my point - other companies are coming for Tesla because the electric market is the future.
You read data on US only figures for Tesla. Its more than that. For me at least its about being able to work on your own vehicle. What's your daily commute? Electric vehicles still need maintenance. I always cringe when Tesla fanboys try to say their cars need no maintenance. But then again, I think your avg Tesla buyer is not exactly knowledgeable about vehicles, they buy a car like they buy their Iphone. There are a couple of air filters, but those are 2-3 years apart. Rotate the tires is the most frequent maintenance point by far. Now, let's also not overstate the amount of maintenance that ICE cars now require either, which is way lower than it used to be. What's your daily commute? Personally I think with current technology only the plug-in hybrid makes sense for the vast majority of users. There's no reason the technology to make full EV's practical won't evolve but IMO it's not there yet unless you just want a vehicle for use locally and don't mind overpaying.
What's the average daily commute in this country? What's the average daily commute in this country? What's the average daily commute in this country? I thought about that recently. Here in Naples we have people that commute from Bonita, Fort Myers even as far as Cape Coral and Immokalee. But I couldn't do that Id move first. Back home in NY and VT its nothing for people to commute 30 min - 1 hour with no traffic. Sorry - I entirely misread your post when I asked you that. I thought about that recently. Here in Naples we have people that commute from Bonita, Fort Myers even as far as Cape Coral and Immokalee. But I couldn't do that Id move first. Back home in NY and VT its nothing for people to commute 30 min - 1 hour with no traffic. Yeah - but in that hour I move all of 20 miles.
