You Can Now Ask Your GM Car To Make A Restaurant Reservation

Just another helpful new feature from GM.

Modern car infotainment systems can now do a lot more than navigate you to a destination, control the radio, and handle calls from your phone. As smartphones continue to offer amazing features and lawmakers continue to warn us of the dangers of using a phone while driving, automakers have to step in and offer more built-in features on their car infotainment systems.

General Motors has been on the cutting edge with its GM Marketplace app. The built-in app allows drivers to pay for goods such as food, gasoline, and coffee without leaving their vehicle. Now, GM has announced a new feature on the Marketplace app.

A recent update will allow Buick drivers to make restaurant reservations with just a few taps on the touchscreen. The Buick Marketplace now includes Yelp Reservations, which can search a 25-mile radius and reserve a table for up to 10 people. Users can even search based on the type of cuisine or price and view the restaurant's ratings.

“Whether drivers want to make a dinner reservation on the go, or get recommendations for restaurants in a new city, the newly added Yelp Reservations brings simple convenience to the car,” said Sam Russell, director of Buick Marketing. “Making new features like this available for vehicles already on the road enhances our vehicles with unexpected new benefits for our customers.”

Buick Marketplace is available on all 2017 and newer models in the US, depending on trim level. This capability should also be rolled out on other GM vehicles with the correct infotainment system. GM Marketplace also allows drivers to pay for Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts as well as Shell gas stations without leaving the car. Being able to book a dinner reservation from a car isn't an all-new feature but it is just another helpful feature of modern in-car infotainment.
