The SL Class Mercedes Benz has been in production since 1954, currently in the fifth generation of its technological evolution. It is a two seater sports car featuring a retractable hardtop. The SL designation is derived from the German "sport leicht", which literally translates in to English as sport light, and is the flagship model of the Mercedes Benz range of automobiles. SL models are available with a variety of engine configurations. While all SL Class vehicles are fitted with the latest 7GTronic transmission system, some models are available with the sport version of this. Using AMG's turbocharged V12 6.0L petrol engine which produces 604hp, and AMG's Speedshift 5 speed automatic transmission, it is the worlds most powerful production roadster. Both of these models are recognised as the pinnacle of automotive engineering. As the flagship roadster of the Mercedes Benz company, the SL range of vehicles is equipped with top of the line security and comfort features, a result of the company's years of extensive research and development experience. The advanced "Active Body Control" (ABC) suspension system virtually eliminates body roll during cornering, using conventional springs and dampers with a hydraulically controlled servo cylinder. And finally, probably Mercedes's most useful innovation is the "AIRSCARF" feature. While driving with the hardtop off, with the push of a button, the surrounding air is suctioned out by propellers in the back of the headrest, warmed and blown out through a nozzle! Altogether a very special vehicle.
