2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA [render]

2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA [render]

With its front-wheel drive platform, the CLA may not be the powersliding four-door coupe that enthusiasts yearn for, but it鈥檚 still a big moneymaker for Mercedes-Benz. It鈥檚 so popular that the German automaker will soon bring it back for its second generation, which will follow hot on the heels of the recently unveiled 2019 A-Class. Very similar to the new-gen compact hatchback, according to XTomi鈥檚 rendering, albeit with a few tweaks made here and there. The rendering looks pretty much spot-on, but it remains to be seen if the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA will actually look like this. Underpinned by the same architecture as the new A-Class, the next CLA will continue to be offered with standard front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive will be an option. It will be powered by a host of small engines, some of them carried with a few improvements from the current iteration, and some shared with Renault, and it should to be offered with both manual and automatic transmissions.

Technological revisions start with AMG鈥檚 Track Pace system; a data logger for the infotainment system which can track the driver鈥檚 acceleration, braking and lap times, as well as provide the driver with a map of the circuit being driven on. Famous tracks such as Spa and the Nurburgring are pre-loaded, but the system allows drivers to record their own also. Mercedes has also tinkered with the GT鈥檚 traction control system, adding AMG DYNAMICS. Separated into 鈥淏asic,鈥?鈥淎dvanced,鈥?Pro,鈥?and 鈥淢aster,鈥?modes, the system can supposedly calculate how the GT will react when being driven hard, and compensate for the driver鈥檚 shortcomings without patronising them with noticeable electronic interference. The latest AMG GT will also be available with Mercedes鈥?PARKTRONIC system as an optional extra. This driver aid includes front and rear cameras, a series of ultrasonic sensors in the bumpers, and visual and audible aids, used to guide the driver into a parking space. A new, flagship AMG GT R Pro has also been introduced. It鈥檚 a more track-focussed version of the 577bhp GT R, tweaked with suspension revisions, weight saving techniques and new aerodynamics.

All C-Class models also come with a rearview camera, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and attention assist - a driver drowsiness monitoring system that monitors your eye movements and face while you drive and detects if you're distracted or nodding off. Also standard is Mercedes Pre-Safe, which prepares the car for an impending collision by closing the windows and tightening the seat belts. Which Mercedes-Benz C-Class Model Is Right for Me? The 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is available in four major trim levels, each with its own distinct engine. Standard and optional features mostly stay the same between trims.
