ISSUE:

New PDU software has been released.

JTP 627/5 includes updates to previously released software issues and is a release of the S-TYPE software.

The CD contents list details all of the software that is available on this CD.

CHANGES

2000 Jaguar S-Type (X200) V6-3.0L Page 212

The following functions have been modified since the last release:

Integrity Test

It is now possible to disable the integrity test, reducing the overall diagnostic tic time.

Vehicle CM identification

This function is now available within the Vehicle Set-up.

CM CONFIGURATION

The PDU contains configuration software for a significant number of control modules (CM) on the S-TYPE. The following tables provide data on

what level of configuration will be required under differing circumstances. The CMs will require configuring using the PDU in the case a service

replacement is installed.

The control modules will require configuration in the event being fitted as part of an accessory kit.

The control module will require configuring in the event of DTCs C1277 and C1278 (steering wheel angle) being cleared.

VID BLOCK PROGRAMMING

The Vehicle identification block (VID block) is a section of memory within the powertrain control module used to store data about all of the control

module configurations on the vehicle. This data is not used by the vehicle itself, and therefore failure to program the VID block will not affect the

vehicle's operation. The VID Block data is used by PDU during its diagnostic and configuration routines to gather data about the vehicle.

PCM ID

The PCM Identifier is a unique code used to synchronize the PCM, Instrument pack and Steering column lock control module. If all three modules

are not synchronized then the vehicle will not start.

NEW WARNING MESSAGE

A new general warning message has been added to the start of all diagnostic routines. This message will appear whenever the PDU is switched on or

the diagnostic application is reloaded from the base station. Specific warning messages will still be provided within the diagnostic routines when

required.

DIAGNOSIS OF CONTINUOUS CRANKING PROBLEMS

The starter test routine for S-TYPE provides diagnostic procedures for continuous cranking problems. Unlike the majority of other applications this

routine assumes that the vehicle is not continuously cranking at the time the test starts. The test will operate correctly with either of the following two

conditions applied.

^ Starter relay removed

^ Battery supply strap to the starter motor removed

ACTION:

Ensure that this software is installed immediately. Retain the previous issues in a secure place as a backup CD-ROM in the event the new software is

damaged. Use JTP 627/5 for diagnosing 1995-97 MY Sedan Range, 1997-ON MY XK8, 1998- ON MYV8 XJ Series and 2000 MY S-TYPE.

When entering a VIN for S-TYPE, you must enter the last 6 characters, not just the last 5 numbers. Without the letter, the PDU will interpret the
