For its 40th anniversary, the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been presented with special modifications, a G manufaktur personalization package and a new testing ground. In 1975 the carmaker made a decision to launch the Gelandewagen into series production. A new plant was built in Graz, Austria. The model is assembled manually. 80% vehicles purchased within 40 years are in operation today. When this luxury off-road SUV entered the market in the spring of 1979, it was available with a choice of four engines from 72 to 156 hp. Mercedes has released three special editions equipped with a 330-hp diesel or a gasoline V8 that produces 422 hp. A hot version is available as well. The range of the G manufaktur individualization package is so huge, that in theory vehicles can be produced for several decades without two identical. For the seats alone, there are 64 combinations of upholstery and designs. There are trims for handles (leather-covered), steering wheels, etc. 34 colors are provided for exterior. In the near future, the G-Class Experience Center will be officially opened at the former airport.
