Rear Door Glass Inoperative in Hot Climates - Detached Regulator Mounting - Replace Regulators - Service Action S142



Remove and destroy Bulletin S501-S142, dated 02/02. Replace with this Bulletin. Revisions are shown with black bars.

Issue:



On some 2000-01 MY S-TYPE vehicles (within the above VIN range) that are consistently left outside in high temperatures (e.g. above 25°C) for



extended periods of time, the rear door glass regulator may become detached from its mounting, thus preventing the door glass from



opening/closing.



Affected Areas/States in North America.



Action:



In only those states affected (see table above), all rear door glass regulators should be replaced on S-TYPE vehicles within the above VIN range at



the next service opportunity.



To replace the rear door glass regulators, follow the procedure below:



REPAIR PROCEDURE



This workshop procedure is applicable to either the left-hand or right-hand side of the vehicle and should be repeated on the opposite side:



1. Open luggage compartment lid.



2. Displace luggage compartment carpet.



3. Disconnect vehicle battery (See Workshop Manual, JTIS CD ROM section 414-01, SRO 86.15.01).



Warning:



After the battery has been disconnected, wait for one minute for the air bag system to disarm.



4. Remove rear door trim pad for access.



5. Remove rear door quarter light glass. (See Workshop Manual, JTIS CD ROM section 501-11).



6. Remove rear door glass. (See Workshop Manual, JTIS CD ROM section 501-11.)



7. Remove door glass regulator bolts. (See Workshop Manual, JTIS CD ROM section 501-11.)



8. Detach door glass regulator.



9. Disconnect rear door glass regulator electrical connector.



10. Remove door glass regulator.



11. Connect new door glass regulator electrical connector.



12. Align door glass regulator.



13. Install and tighten door glass regulator bolts.



14. Install rear door glass. (See Workshop Manual, JTIS CD ROM section 501-11.



15. Install rear door quarter light glass. (See Workshop Manual, JTIS CD ROM section 501-11.)



16. Install rear door trim pad.



17. Reconnect vehicle battery (See Workshop Manual, JTIS CD ROM section 414-01, SRO 86.15.01).



18. Reposition luggage compartment carpet.



19. Close luggage compartment.

Recall Action data. Upon the introduction of the revised DDW claim submission system, the following warranty information will apply.



Warranty claims should be submitted quoting the information shown in the table. This will result in payment of the stated time and where applicable



parts/miscellaneous expense codes as listed.



Drive in/Drive out may only be claimed when the vehicle has been brought in for this action to be undertaken alone.



The SROs and parts listed above have been included for information only and there will be no requirement to enter the parts or SROs onto the claim.



NOTE:



Always perform a DCS claim search first to determine whether this service action has been performed on this vehicle. The warranty selection



under the vehicle inquiry will give a listing of all claims against the vehicle. If S142 appears in the fault code field, do not perform this service



action.



DCS DEALERS



Submit claims using the appropriate summary code for the vehicle model and work performed. Follow standard campaign submission procedures.

NON-DCS DEALERS



Submit claims on the Recall Campaign Summary form W-25. Enter the appropriate summary code for the vehicle model and work performed in the



Repair Code column. Do not use the W-1 warranty claim form.
