SUBJECT:
Sliding Door Trim Contacting Vehicle Rear Quarter
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing an additional door panel retention point to prevent the door panel from bowing and contacting the body when the
sliding door is opened.
MODELS:
2008 - 2012 (RT) Dodge Caravan
2008 - 2012 (RT) Chrysler Town and Country
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built prior to February 11, 2012 (MDH 0211XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a door trim panel contacting the quarter panel on either side when opening either of the sliding doors.
PARTS REQUIRED:
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 18
SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
DIAGNOSIS:
In some instances interior door panel to quarter panel contact has been noted on both left and right sides of the vehicle. Design clearances of the
interior door panel are aggravated by heat which causes the door panel to relax and bow, which may contact the rear quarter panel (Fig. 1). In order
to correct this condition and avoid costly paint repairs an additional retention point needs to be added to prevent the door panel bowing condition. If
the customer describes the symptom, perform the Repair Procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove both door trim panels. Refer to the detailed procedures available in DealerConnect>TechCONNECT> under: Service Info> 23-Body>
Doors - Sliding>PANEL, Door Trim> Removal.
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 19
2. Remove the standoff from the back side of each door panel (Fig. 2).
3. Cut the sound deadener on the back side of each door panel as shown in (Fig. 3).
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 20
4. Carefully drill a 5/16"(8mm) hole through door module at the center of the formation/standoff (1) directly above the door module (if equipped)
or just forward of the part number tag (Fig. 4).
NOTE:
Make sure door window is in the full upward position before drilling hole in door module.
5. Fully seat the white dual lock push clips (1) from repair kit into the 5/16" (8mm) hole in the door modules (Fig. 5).
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 21
6. Temporarily engage the dual lock halves in order to transfer the clip location from the module to the door panel using Kent Leak Trace Powder
or equivalent and scribe the clip location on the back side of the door panel as shown in (Fig. 6).
NOTE:
Door trim panel(s) will need to be rough set and pressurized to transfer the contact location. Leak trace powder should be applied to the
approximate clip location on the back side of the door trim panel.
NOTE:
Do not engage dual lock halves and remove peel-off backing to locate the door trim panel side of the clip as this could result in an improperly
placed clip while reinstalling the door panel. Improperly placing the clip can possibly destroy it if removal or repositioning is required. Do not
use grease to transfer clip location as this will leach into the plastic surface of the trim panel and affect clip adhesive retention.
7. Clean the surface area (1) of both door trim panels to be bonded with isopropyl alcohol (Fig. 7).
8. Once the alcohol has evaporated apply 3M 4298 adhesion promoter or equivalent to the surface area (1) where the dual lock adhesive backer will
bond (Fig. 7).

Body/Frame - Welded Sheet Metal Repairs And Replacements
NUMBER: 31-007-12
GROUP: Collision Bulletin
DATE: August 14, 2012
SUBJECT:
Welded Sheet Metal Repairs and Replacements
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin discuss the recommended weld processes when replacing a panel that has been welded to the vehicle.
DISCUSSION:
Regardless of the cause of vehicular damage, the repairers moral obligation is to repair the vehicle to the original design intent relative to safety,
NVH, comfort, durability, and corrosion protection by duplicating the original construction as closely as possible by
following all manufacturers guidelines. With the increasing use of advanced high strength steels in body construction, and their susceptibility to
degraded material properties from welding heat, the approved process for installation of replacement panels has changed.
Chrysler has previously approved the use of "weld bonding", where squeeze type resistance spot welding (STRSW) is combined with an approved
structural adhesive, as one of the acceptable methods to install welded panels while maintaining the original appearance and corrosion protection.
High quality and capable STRSW equipment, which was a rare shop tool in the collision repair industry, has now become the norm and with this, it
is now important to state that weld bonding of replacement panels is the recommended installation method to utilize when repairing Chrysler, Dodge,
Fiat, Jeep, or Ram vehicles.
GAS METAL ARC WELDING (GMAW or MIG) SHOULD ONLY BE USED IN THE
FOLLOWING SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES:
^ Proper weld access cannot be attained utilizing STRSW equipment with any of the available accessory arms.
^ Utilize 6-8 mm ring fillet welds for exterior panels and 8-10 mm for all others.
^ Adhesives need to be kept 25 mm from a ring fillet weld due to their flammability.
^ A Chrysler publication explicitly calls out fusion welding as the proper repair method.
^ The original attachment was GMAW.
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 86
ALL OF THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES MUST BE ADHERED TO:
^ DO NOT use heat to straighten sheet metal unless the panel will be replaced.
^ If weld-on pulling studs are used, their use must be minimal and the backside of the repaired panel must also be repaired to restore the original
corrosion protection.
CHARACTERISTIC OF ACCEPTABLE STRSW EQUIPMENT:
^ Must utilize 220 volt (or greater), three-phase power supply.
^ Must utilize inverter technology
^ Must have the capability to provide a minimum of 10,000 amps of output.
^ Must have the capability to provide 600 pounds of tip force (267 daN) with the longest arms
^ Should utilize "smart" technology which helps eliminate errors in equipment set-up.
STRSW EQUIPMENT MEETING THE CRITERIA INCLUDES:
^ Car-O-Liner CTR12000
^ Cebotech Tecna Smart-Plus 3664+
^ Elektron Multispot MI-100 Control
^ Pro Spot i5
^ ONLY Lord Fusor # 112B or 3M # 08116 have been approved by Chrysler for weld bonding. These materials provide corrosion protection in
the vulnerable weld zone. Joint sealers should be applied after welding is complete and appropriate primers have been applied (if needed).
^ Only remove e-coat from the new panel at the weld-bond mating location.
^ Minimize removal of galvanize/galvanneal coating.
^ Solvent wipe with suitable product before application of adhesive.
^ Initial application of adhesive should be spread from the bare metal onto the e-coat to provide a continuous corrosion barrier.
THE REPLACEMENT STRSW WELDS SHOULD DUPLICATE THE ORIGINAL WELDS
IN:
^ Size
^ Quantity
^ Location
NOTE:
replacement welds should be within -inch of the original location while trying to avoid placing new welds over old welds. Where replacing only
the exterior panel in a 3T situation, the new weld should be placed about 3/8-inch away to avoid shunting and reestablish a 3T weld.
^ Never use "weld-thru" primer.
^ Completing all welded panel replacements requires applying a coating of creeping rust inhibitive material in all areas where any welds were
made, even where weld-bonded.
^ Replacement panels must be installed as provided, and utilizing the methods described in this bulletin, unless additional guidelines are made in
another Chrysler Collision Repair Bulletin, Chrysler Body Repair Manual, or other Chrysler approved publication.
Failure to follow these repair guidelines will result in a vehicle which may not duplicate the original design intent in terms of function, safety, and
durability.

SUBJECT:
Do Not Apply Corrosion Protection On SMC (Plastic) Panels
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves discussing SMC (plastic) panels and applying corrosion protection.
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 87
DISCUSSION:
The application of corrosion protection on SMC (plastic) panels is unnecessary and not recommended. It can adversely affect the paint or any other
coating applied to the substrate. In some instances it can cause a condition commonly referred to as solvent popping shown in (Fig. 1). Although the
condition appears to be repairable, it will reoccur because the SMC substrate is porous and has essentially absorbed the corrosion inhibitor, which
will cause the condition to reoccur. Panel replacement is required when solvent popping is evident on SMC (plastic) panels when corrosion
protection materials have been applied.

Body - Front Bumper Fascia Repair For License Bracket Holes
NUMBER: 31-004-12
GROUP: Collision Bulletin
DATE: July 26, 2012
SUBJECT:
Front Fascia Repair When License Plate Bracket Has Been Removed
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves cosmetic repairs, which may be necessary when the front license plate bracket required in some states is removed after a
vehicle is relocated to a state, which does not mandate front license plates.
DISCUSSION:
After a front license plate bracket is removed from the front fascia, there will be mounting holes in the fascia, which may be deemed cosmetically
unacceptable. The fascia will not require replacement for this condition and instead may be repaired and refinished to duplicate new part condition.
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 88
Repair processes have been outlined by the adhesive
suppliers, which can be found in the plastic repair or by visiting the websites of the plastic repair material providers such as 3M, Crest, Dominion

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to all Chrysler Group LLC vehicles equipped with gasoline engines, except SRT and Viper models or vehicles equipped
with Diesel engines.
DISCUSSION:
Engines require oil to lubricate and protect the load bearing and internal moving parts from wear including cylinder walls, pistons and piston rings.
When a piston moves down its cylinder, a thin film of oil is left on the cylinder wall. During the power stroke, part of this oil layer is consumed in
the combustion process. Varying rates of oil consumption are accepted as normal in all engines.
Oil Consumption
The accepted rate of oil consumption for engines used in the vehicles listed above is 0.946 liter (1 qt.) in 3,200 km (2,000 mi) for the 1st 80,467 km
(50,000 mi). For vehicles with more then 80,467 km (50,000 mi) the acceptable oil consumption for engines is 0.946 liter (1 qt.) in 1,207 km (750
mi).
CAUTION:
This above rate only applies to personal use vehicles, under warranty, that are driven in a non-aggressive manner and maintained in accordance
with the appropriate maintenance schedule,
CAUTION:
This rate does not apply to vehicles that are driven in an aggressive manner, at high RPM, high speeds, or in a loaded condition (for trucks). See
Causes for Oil Consumption below. Oil consumption for vehicles driven under these conditions will be higher and may include Fleet and
Commercial customers.
There are many factors that can affect a Owner's concern with oil consumption. Driving habits and vehicle maintenance vary from owner to owner.
Inspect each condition listed below prior to determining if the vehicle in question has abnormal engine oil consumption. If abnormal oil consumption
is suspected, refer to the detailed diagnostic procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 09 - Engine >
Diagnosis and Testing - Oil Consumption Test And Diagnosis.
Diagnosis of Oil Consumption:
Gasket and External Leaks
Thoroughly inspect the oil pan and engine intake manifold for leakage due to over tightened, damaged, or out of place gaskets.
Oil Leaks
Inspect all oil lines and fittings for signs of leakage. Verify Oil filter is at proper torque and Oil Filter gasket is not out of place.
Improper Reading of the Oil Level Indicator on Dipstick
Verify that the dipstick is fully seated in the tube. Verify the dipstick tube is fully seated in the engine block. When checking the oil level, make sure
the vehicle is on a level surface and the dipstick is wiped clean before taking an oil level reading and fully depress the dipstick until the shoulder
bottoms out on the dipstick tube.
NOTE:
The dipstick must be the proper part number for the engine/vehicle that is being checked.
CAUTION:
Operating the vehicle with an oil level that is below the minimum level indicated on the engine oil dipstick can result in severe engine damage.
Repairs resulting from operating an engine with insufficient oil are not covered under the terms of the New Vehicle Warranty.
Some engines require more time than others for the oil to drain back into the crankcase. The vehicle should be allowed to sit for at least 15 minutes,
after the engine has been shut off, before taking an oil level reading. To ensure an accurate reading, the temperature of the oil should be close to the
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 96
same temperature as the last time the oil level was checked.
Under or Over Oil Fill after an Oil Change
After an oil change, verify that the proper amount of oil was put in the engine and that the oil level on the dipstick is not above the full mark or
below the add marks. Refer to the Owner Manual or Service Information for information on recommended oil quantity.
Correct Oil Type
Verify the vehicle has the correct oil. Refer to the Owner Manual or Service Information for information on recommended oil viscosity, and quality.
Crankcase Ventilation System
Verify that the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system is operating properly.
Blockages, restrictions, or damage to the PCV system can result in increased oil use.
Oil Dilution (Fuel and Water)
On vehicles that are normally driven short distances, less than 8 km (5 mi), especially in colder weather, unburned fuel and condensation generated
from cold engine operation may not get hot enough to evaporate out of the oil. When this occurs, the dipstick may indicate that the oil level is
over-full. Subsequent driving on a trip of sufficient length to enable normal engine operating temperature for 30 minutes or more, in order to
vaporize excess moisture and fuel, may give the customer the impression of excessive oil consumption.
Causes for Oil Consumption:
Aggressive Driving
Aggressive driving and/or continuous driving at high speeds with high RPM's will increase oil consumption. Because this may not always be an
everyday occurrence, it is hard to determine exactly how much the oil economy will be affected. A higher rate of oil consumption is normal for
vehicles equipped with manual transmissions that are driven aggressively. Aggressive means; operation at high RPM (3,000 RPM to redline), with
frequent use of engine braking (using the engine to slow the vehicle). Vehicles that are driven aggressively may consume engine oil at a rate of up to
0.946 L (1 quart) every 805 km (500 mi). This is normal for a vehicle that is driven aggressively. No repair is necessary. This driving habit will
require the owner to check the engine oil level at frequent intervals, to verified the oil level remains within the recommended operating range. Oil
level should be checked every time you get fuel.
Towing or Heavy Usage
Towing a trailer will increase oil consumption and may cause oil consumption to fall below the normal accepted rate referenced in this bulletin for an
unloaded vehicle in a personal use application. Large frontal area trailers will further increase the work required from the
engine, especially at highway speeds increasing the rate of oil consumption.
Engine Wear
Piston scuffing, excessive piston-to-wall clearance, tapered or out of round cylinders, worn, damaged or improperly installed valve guides, seals and
piston rings will cause an increase in oil consumption.
Engine Temperature
If an engine is run at overheated temperatures for more than brief periods, oil will oxidize at a faster than normal rate. In addition, gaskets may
distort, piston rings may stick, and excessive wear may result. Verify that all cooling system components are in proper working order.

DISCUSSION:
Chrysler Group vehicle fluid systems do NOT require regular flushing. These systems include: engine oil, transmission oil, axle lube, brake fluid,
power steering fluid, and refrigerant. The only exceptions to this requirement are published in the vehicle maintenance schedules, e.g. engine
coolant.
Exceptions to this recommendation include only those instances where a malfunction has occurred and/or the system has become compromised,
contaminated or overheated beyond the normal operating range.
Chrysler Group does NOT recommend aftermarket chemicals to flush the engine, transmission, brake or steering systems. Chemicals contained in
these products can damage the system elastomeric components, and contaminate the component fluid, leading to loss of system/component durability
and service life. When necessary, only the original approved system fluid should be used to flush these components using team PSE approved
equipment.
If the engine coolant contains a considerable amount of sediment, clean and flush with Mopar Cooling System Flush, p/n 04856977, or equivalent.
Follow with a thorough rinsing to remove all deposits and chemicals. Refill with a minimum of a 50% mixture of the specified coolant and distilled
water.

NOTE:
This information applies to any model equipped with Chrome Clad Wheels.
DISCUSSION:
Models equipped with Chrome Clad wheels require specific piloting on balance equipment to properly center the wheel and prevent damage to the
chrome clad surface. The chrome cladding is not removable or replaceable and has cladding tabs that extend into the wheel bore. Traditional
high-taper cones will come into contact with the cladding tabs rather than properly seat on the hub bore chamfer. Many modern aluminum wheel
designs cannot be mounted with traditional cones. Direct-Fit Collets should be used to properly mount clad wheels on balance equipment (Fig 1).

Wheels - Reconditioned Wheel Usage
NUMBER: 31-005-11
GROUP: Collision Bulletin
DATE: November 10, 2011
SUBJECT:
Reconditioned Wheel Usage
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves Chrysler Group LLC position with regard to reconditioned wheel usage.
DISCUSSION:
Chrysler Group LLC does not recommend that customers use "reconditioned" wheels (wheels that have been damaged and repaired) because they
can result in a sudden catastrophic wheel failure which could cause loss of control and result in injury or death.
For clarification:
^ Cosmetic refinishing for the purpose of repairing a superficial flaw is an acceptable procedure providing it is limited too paint or clear coat only,
the wheel is not modified in any way, and there is no exposure to paint curing heat over 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
^ Damaged wheels are those which have been bent, broken, cracked or sustained some other physical damage which may have compromised the
wheel structure.
^ Repaired indicates that the wheel has been modified through bending, welding, heating, straightening, or material removal to rectify damage.
^ Re-plating of chrome plated wheels, or chrome plating of original equipment painted or polished wheels, is not an acceptable procedure as this
may alter mechanical properties and affect fatigue life. Additionally, Chrysler Group LLC Global Warranty Administration does not allow
refinishing of wheels under warranty.

Restraints - Replacement Seat Covers/Seat Cover Repairs
NUMBER: 31-004-11
GROUP: Collision Bulletin
DATE: November 10, 2011
SUBJECT:
Replacement Seat Covers And Seat Cover Repairs
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves Chrysler Group LLC position in regard to replacement seat covers and seat cover repairs.
DISCUSSION:
Chrysler Group LLC vehicles, systems and components are engineered, tested and manufactured to help protect vehicle occupants based upon
government mandated and internal corporate requirements relative to durability, noise vibration & harshness, occupant protection, and vehicle
safety. Supplemental Seat-Mounted Side Air Bags provide enhanced protection to help protect an occupant during a side impact. When the
seat-mounted side air bag deploys, it opens the seam between the front and side of the seat's trim cover. Modifications to the seat system, including
the seat cover, may change the way the air bag deploys, which could adversely affect the performance of the Supplemental Seat-Mounted Side Air
Bag causing serious injury. "Modifications include:
^ Any change to the seat back cover such as material, thread, stitch design, and alterations or misplacement of the features which guide the
deploying air bag into position.
^ Any non-approved seat-cover replacements. Only Authentic Mopar(R) Repair Parts, and approved Mopar(R) accessories such as Katzkin(R)
Leather seat covers, are designed, engineered, manufactured and tested to the Chrysler Group LLC internal and government mandated standards.
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 158
The use of parts not specifically designed and tested by Chrysler Group LLC may compromise the integral balance between these safety systems.
Chrysler Group LLC only approves of repairs or modifications to the supplemental seat-mounted side air bag system, including the seat system
or seat cover, where Authentic Mopar Repair Parts or Mopar Accessories are used for Chrysler, Jeep(R), Dodge and Ram vehicles. Any
unapproved repairs or modifications performed not using Mopar parts, or not following Chrysler Group LLC approved published repair
guidelines and procedures, may increase the risk of injury to current or future vehicle owners and occupants.

Restraints - Use Of Salvaged Restraint System Components
NUMBER: 31-003-11
GROUP: Collision Bulletin
DATE: November 10, 2011
SUBJECT:
Salvaged Airbags Or Other Salvaged Restraint System Component Usage
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the position of Chrysler Group LLC in regard to Salvaged Air Bags or Other Salvaged Restraint System Component Usage.
DISCUSSION:
Chrysler Group LLC does not support the use of any supplemental restraint system (SRS) component, seatbelt component, or any other occupant
protection component which has been removed from a vehicle previously damaged, flooded, burned, scrapped, or removed from use for any other
reason--commonly referred to as "salvage parts. Restraint system components are engineered, tested, and manufactured to protect vehicle occupants
based upon both government mandated and internal corporate requirements relative to vehicle safety and occupant protection. New Mopar(R)
replacement parts are required to be equivalent to the originally installed parts and are tested to ensure these requirements are met. While some
salvage parts may visually appear equivalent, there can be dramatic differences in the design and functional characteristics which could have a
negative effect on the vehicle occupants in a future collision event. These specific design and functional characteristics can only be determined
through destructive testing. Salvage components may have been affected by:
^ Crash impact loads, Flood and Smoke or heat damage.
^ Incorrect, improper, or inadequate disassembly and removal procedures.
^ Weathering or environmental exposure outside of that expected during normal use.
^ Abuse Additionally, salvage components are not traceable should a component recall be required in the future. It is in the best interest of the
current or future vehicle owner and/or occupants that repairs to the SRS, seatbelt and occupant protection system are made using new original
equipment parts. Anything less than this may expose operators and occupants too unnecessary risk.

Repair Parts Used For Structural Repairs
OVERVIEW:
This is Chrysler Group LLC position with regard to structural repair parts usage.
DISCUSSION:
Chrysler Group LLC vehicles, systems and components are engineered, tested and manufactured to protect vehicle occupants based upon both
government mandated and internal corporate requirements relative to durability, NVH (noise/vibration/harshness), occupant protection, and vehicle
safety. The overall structural integrity of the vehicle is dependent on its inherent design specifications. Sheet metal and glass are critical elements in
the design of specific crush zones that allow the energy of a collision to be absorbed in a predictable way and maximize the effectiveness of the
restraint system to protect the occupants. The use of parts not specifically designed and tested by Chrysler Group LLC may compromise the integral
balance between these safety systems. Only Authentic Mopar?Repair Parts and glass are designed, engineered, manufactured and tested to the
Chrysler Group LLC internal and government mandated standards and are the only ones equivalent to the originally installed parts. Chrysler Group
LLC does not approve of or recognize structural repair procedures where Authentic Mopar Parts are not used for Chrysler, Jeep(R), Dodge and Ram
vehicles. Any repairs performed not using Mopar parts, and not following published repair guidelines and procedures, may expose current or future
vehicle owners and occupants to unnecessary risk. When restoring a collision damaged vehicle to pre-loss condition, consideration must be given to
the following:
^ All structural distortion has been identified and corrected using appropriate structural straightening equipment ("frame rack~) and a
three-dimensional measuring system.
^ All damaged panels have been repaired or replaced.
^ All replaced panels provide the as-built structural equivalence and corrosion protection of the original panels.
^ Unless partial replacement procedures are documented in a Chrysler Group LLC publication, structural panels must be installed in their entirety -
partial replacement or "sectioning of panels may compromise vehicle structure.
^ Chrysler Group LLC does not support the use or re-use of any structural component which has been removed from a vehicle previously
damaged, flooded, burned, scrapped or removed from use for any other reason--commonly referred to as "salvage parts."
^ While some salvage parts may "appear" equivalent, there can be dramatic differences in the design and functional characteristics which cannot be
determined by a visual inspection and which could have a negative effect on the vehicle occupants in a future collision event.
^ Salvage components may have been affected by crash impact loads, incorrect, improper or inadequate disassembly and removal procedures,
weathering or environmental exposure outside of that expected during normal use.
^ Salvage components are not traceable should a component recall be required in the future.

Body/Frame - Usage Of Heat For Repair
NUMBER: 31-001-11
GROUP: Collision Bulletin
DATE: Approval Pending
SUBJECT:
Use of Heat To Straighten Damaged Components
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves Chrysler Group LLC position with regard to use of heat during repair.
DISCUSSION:
Chrysler Group LLC Service Engineering's position on the use of heat during collision repair is as follows:
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 160
^ Any damaged body panel or frame component, which is to be repaired, must be repaired using the "cold straightening" method. No heat may be
used during the straightening process. This "no heat" recommendation is due to the extensive use of high-strength and advanced high-strength
steels in Chrysler Group LLC vehicles. High-strength materials can be substantially and negatively affected from heat input which will not be
obviously known to the repairer or consumer. Additionally, application of heat will alter or destroy material coatings utilized for corrosion
protection and which may not be restorable. Ignoring these recommendations may lead to serious compromises in the ability to protect occupants
in a future collision event, reduce the engineered qualities and attributes, or decrease the durability and reliability of the vehicle.
^ During rough straightening prior to replacement, damaged panels or frame components may be heated to assist in body/frame realignment. This
application of heat, if absolutely necessary, must be constrained to the parts which will be replaced and not allowed to affect any other
components.

Body - Paint Overspray Removal Procedures
NUMBER: 31-001-13
GROUP: Collision Bulletin
DATE: January 11, 2013
SUBJECT:
Overspray Removal
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves removing overspray which can be a result of industrial fallout and/or a poor refinishing process.
DISCUSSION:
Depending on the severity and extent of overspray on painted surfaces the removal process will vary. Always begin using the least aggressive
method. An example of overspray is shown in (Fig. 1).
1. Before removing any overspray, wash the effected area with soap and water as shown in (Fig. 2).
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 171
2. Work in a 12"(305mm) x12"(305mm) area at a time and apply Meguiars Final Inspection or a detail spray equivalent to the effected area (Fig.
3).
3. Using a clay bar work in a unidirectional pattern while the detail spray applied in Step # 2 is still wet as shown in (Fig. 4).
NOTE:
Do not move the clay bar in a circular direction on the panel surface as it will create scratches.
4. As the overspray is removed, remove the detail spray residue with a microfiber cloth and continue to the next effected area until all the overspray
is removed (Fig. 5).
5. If overspray cannot be removed with a clay bar and Meguiars Final Inspection or equivalent, proceed to Step # 6.
6. Use a D.A. polisher with a foam finishing pad and Meguairs So1o Cut & Polish Cream Or an equivalent compound and polish cream, working in
a 12"(305mm) x12"(305mm) area. Was the overspray removed?
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 172
a. Yes >>> Continue using this method on the other affected painted surfaces and remove polishing residue with a microfiber cloth as shown in
(Fig. 5).
b. No >>> Proceed to Step # 7.
7. Use a rotary buffer with a foam polishing pad set to a preferred RPM and Meguairs So1o Cut & Polish Cream Or an equivalent compound and
polish cream, working in a 12"(305mm) x12"(305mm) area. Was the overspray removed?
a. Yes >>> Continue using this method on the other affected painted surfaces and remove polishing residue with a microfiber cloth as shown in
(Fig. 5).
b. No >>> Proceed to Step # 8.
NOTE:
A rotary buffer must be used by a trained technician as it can permanently damage the painted surface if not used correctly. Damaged areas can
only be repaired by refinishing the affected vehicle panel. Prior to using a rotary buffer measure the paint thickness using Gauge #PR-ETG-2X or
equivalent to determine clearcoat or single-stage paint thickness before and after the repair.
CAUTION:
Do not remove more than 0.2 mils of clearcoat when polishing. Most vehicles have 1.5 mils of clearcoat film thickness.
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 173
8. Lightly wet sand the overspray with Meguiars unigrit 2500 wet sandpaper (or equivalent) with a Mequiars sanding pad (or equivalent) in a
unidirectional pattern until the overspray has been removed or more than 0.2 mils of clearcoat has been removed (Fig. 6).
9. Use a rotary buffer with a cutting polishing pad set to a preferred RPM and Meguairs So1o Cut & Polish Cream Or an equivalent compound and
polish cream, working in a 12"(305mm)x12"(305mm) area.
10. Remove the compound residue with a microfiber cloth to verify the scratches have been removed. Were the sand scratches removed (Fig. 5)?
a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 11.
b. No >>> Repeat Step # 9.
CAUTION:
Do not remove more than 0.5 mils of clearcoat when wet sanding an
polishing. Most vehicles have 1.5 mils of clearcoat film thickness.
11. Use a rotary buffer with a foam polishing pad set to a preferred RPM and Meguairs So1o Cut & Polish Cream Or an equivalent compound and
polish cream, working in a 12"(305mm) x12"(305mm) area. Was the overspray removed?
a. Yes >>> Continue using this method with Step # 10 on the other affected painted surfaces and remove polishing residue with a microfiber
cloth as shown in (Fig. 5).
b. No >>> Suspect area refinish will be required to remove overspray.

1. Adjust sunroof panel flushness along the front of the glass (1)&(2) to 2mm underflush.
Adjust the rear of the sunroof glass panel (3)&(4) to zero/flush (Fig. 1).
NOTE:
Once the proper glass position has been achieved, tighten the six glass
panel attaching screws to 3.5 Nm (31 in.lbs.).
2. Apply two pieces of felt/flock tape p/n 05019055AA to each side of the sunroof glass panel. Apply the tape end to end along the side edge of the
sunroof glass panel (5) starting at the end of the rear corner radius running forward (Fig. 1).
Cycle the sunroof panel to the full open position and use a 2mm feeler gage (1) to check left and right sunroof glass (3) to inner sheet metal
reinforcement (4) gap. Use a flashlight to locate the lowest point between the sheet metal reinforcement (4) and sunroof glass (3) (Fig. 2).
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 180
3. Is the clearance between the inner sunroof sheet metal reinforcement and sunroof glass 2mm or greater?
a. Yes >>> This bulletin does not apply, further diagnosis required.
b. No >>> Cycle the sunroof to the fully closed position and remove the felt/flock tape.
Proceed to Step # 4.
4. Remove the sunroof module. Refer to the detailed procedures available in
DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service info > 23-Body > Sunroof >
SUNROOF > Removal.
5. Using a backer plate (1) or heavy (3/8"/10mm minimum thickness) cardboard to
protect and disburse any pressure applied against the outer roof sheet metal, insert the C-4150A ball joint press/special tool (2) into the low hanging
sunroof reinforcement feature (4) (Fig. 3).
6. Insert a 30mm socket or equivalent (3) between the sunroof reinforcement and spindle of the C-4150A ball joint press/special tool to take up
space between the frame and spindle of the press. Carefully tighten the spindle of the press to compress the center of the sunroof reinforcement
upward (Fig. 3).
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 181
7. Using a backer plate (1) or heavy (3/8"/10mm minimum thickness) cardboard to
protect and disburse any pressure applied against the outer roof sheet metal, carefully push the remaining left and right side of the low hanging
sunroof reinforcement feature (2) upward using a hammer handle or equivalent blunt tool (3) to provide additional clearance (Fig. 4).
WARNING:
A backer plate must be used to protect the exterior roof sheet metal
panel from deformation and evenly disburse any pressure placed on the
exterior roof panel. Failure to do so will result in damage to the outer roof
panel as the raised center of the reinforcement will contact the outer
panel creating a dimple or dent from focused pressure at the point of
contact.
8. Using an index card or folder stock, create a verification gage (4) that will ensure the proper clearance is achieved as a result of modifying the
sunroof reinforcement. The gage should measure 13.5mm down from the outer roof panel and 30mm inward from the outer edge of the sunroof
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 182
reinforcement. Move the verification gage back and forth along this area to ensure proper clearance is achieved (Fig. 4).
NOTE:
Repeat the modification procedure for the opposite side of the vehicle or on
existing side until desired clearance is achieved.
9. Reinstall the sunroof module. Refer to the detailed procedures available in
DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service info > 23-Body > Sunroof >

Service Procedure
NOTE:
wiTECH must be used to perform this recall. This procedure must be performed with software release level 13.02 or higher. If the
reprogramming flash for the PCM is aborted or interrupted, repeat the procedure.
A. Reprogram the PCM:
1. Open the hood. Install a battery charger and verify that the charging rate provides 13.0 to 13.5 volts. Do not allow the charger to time out
during the flash process. Set the battery charger timer (if so equipped) to continuous charge.
NOTE:
Use an accurate stand-alone voltmeter. The battery charger voltmeter may not be sufficiently accurate. Voltages outside of the specified
range will cause an unsuccessful flash. If voltage reading is too high, apply an electrical load by activating the park or headlamps and/or
HVAC blower motor to lower the voltage.
2. Connect the wiTECH VCI pod to the vehicle data link connector located to the right of the park brake pedal.
3. Place the ignition in the "RUN" position.
4. Open the wiTECH Diagnostic application.
5. Starting at the "Select Tool" screen, highlight the row/tool for the wiPOD device you are using. Then select "Next" at bottom right side of the

Paint - Clearcoat Blending During Refinish Process
NUMBER: 31-002-13
GROUP: Collision Bulletin
DATE: January 31, 2013
SUBJECT:
Blending Clearcoat During The Refinish Process
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin discusses Chrysler's position against the use of partial clearcoat blending.
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 204
DISCUSSION:
Partial clearcoat blending is not an approved warranty repair process for Chrysler vehicles. Partial clearcoat blending is a process that generally
involves adding solvents to a paint manufacturers clearcoat mixing formula to reduce the viscosity. This will not only degrade the durability of
materials but it could also produce additional emissions. Partial clearcoat blending is achieved by adopting processes that are typically used to
transition basecoat color on repair areas. Clearcoat should always be applied to the entire surface area of a body panel and mixed to manufacturers
specifications. Any vehicle repaired with the partial
clearcoat blending process will prematurely fail and eventually result in a clearcoat delamination condition. An example of clearcoat blending is
shown in (Fig. 1).
As shown in (Fig. 1) clearcoat is not applied to the entire quarter panel surface area, but only to a small portion. The repair area will initially appear
sufficient but depend on how the process was performed the repair area will begin to degrade in 6 months to 3 years.
Clearcoat (1) has been applied to the entire quarter panel in (Fig. 2) and basecoat (2) was applied to cover the repair area, which is the proper repair
process.
NOTE:
2020 Dodge or Ram Truck Grand Caravan V6-3.6L Page 205
This figure is used for demonstration purposes only. Most quarter panel repairs require clearcoat to be applied to the entire side aperture which
typically ends at the cowl adjacent to the front fender.
