'Transmission Fault - Traction Reduced' Message Displayed

Model Year: 2009 - 2011



CONDITION SUMMARY:



Situation:



A 'Transmission Fault-Traction Reduced' message may be displayed in the Message Center and Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1889-14 or



P0961-62 may be stored in the Rear Differential Control Module (RDCM).



Cause:



This may be caused by the Rear Differential Control Module (RDCM) diagnostic function being too sensitive, leading to the false detection of open



circuits or sticking valves in the Active On-Demand Coupling assembly.



Action:



In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to update the RDCM software.

UPDATE THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE



CAUTION



Ensure all ignition "ON" / ignition "OFF" requests are carried out; failure to perform these steps may cause damage to control modules in



the vehicle.



CAUTION



A Land Rover-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during IDS diagnosis / module



programming.



1. Connect the Land Rover-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply to the vehicle battery.



2. Turn ignition ON (engine not running).



NOTE:



IDS must be loaded with IDS-DVD130.05 viii or later.



3. Connect the IDS to the vehicle and begin a new Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) session.



4. Follow the on-screen prompts, allowing SDD to read the VIN and identify the vehicle.



5. From the Session Type selection screen, choose 'Diagnosis'.



NOTE:



DTC P1889-14 and/or P0961-62 must be present.



6. Select the Selected Symptoms tab, and then select:



^ Electrical> Instruments> Information and message center> Message display area> Powertrain



7. Select 'continue'.



8. Select the Recommendations tab.



9. From the Recommendations tab, select Run to Configure existing module - Rear differential control module



NOTE:



Note the stored DTCs.



10. Read and clear the DTCs.

Perform step 11 only if DTC P1889-14 is stored and DTC P0961-62 is not stored.



11. Start and run the engine for a minimum of five (5) minutes.



^ Re-read the DTCs.



^ If DTC P1889-14 still present, check the wiring to the active on-demand coupling for signs of open or short circuits.



^ If no signs of short or open circuits are evident, carry out the repair action for P1889-14 listed in Workshop Manual section 100-00:

12. Once all tasks are complete, exit the current session.



13. Disconnect the IDS and the Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply from the vehicle.



NOTE:



Perform step 14 only if DTC P0961-62 is present.



14. Carry out a road test.



^ Drive the vehicle at a constant speed of 44 to 56 mph (70 to 90 kph) in a straight line for at least 10 minutes.



^ Connect SDD to the vehicle and re-read the DTCs.



^ If DTC P0961-62 still present, check the wiring to the active on-demand coupling for signs of open or short circuits.



^ If no signs of short or open circuits are evident, carry out the repair action for P0961-62 listed in Workshop Manual 100-00: General
