We really didn't pull our punches with the new BMW 6 Series GT. In fact, we basically ranted that no one at BMW was actually listening to what enthusiasts wanted and we used the 6 Series GT as proof. The 6 Series GT is the unwanted replacement for the 5 Series GT, arguably the oddest car that BMW has ever built. We argued that instead of spending the development dollar on the 6 Series GT, BMW could have just crash tested the 5 Series Estate for US standards or made something beautiful like that Z3 M rendering that we saw a few days ago.
Instead, we are stuck with the 640i GT, which is the only trim level that BMW announced with the car. The sportiest 6 Series GT will be the M Sport package with xDrive. The car is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six making 335 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. This results in a 0-60 mph time of 5.3 seconds. The old 550i GT could hit 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds thanks to its 4.8-liter twin-turbo V8 that produced 448 hp. So far, BMW has only announced the six-cylinder 6 Series GT, but rendering artist X-Tomi Design has already imagined what the GT would look like as an M6. It still isn't our favorite, but of course it looks much better.
We still haven't seen a full reveal of the next-generation M5, but we do have many details about the car. The car will have over 600 hp and be able to hit 60 mph in less than 3.6 seconds. It will be powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with AWD that can be turned off to switch to RWD. Having an M6 GT would certainly soften our hatred of the 6 Series GT, but the only thing that would console us at this point would be an M5 wagon on US shores.
