Headlamp Condensation



AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE



CONDITION SUMMARY:



Situation:



Condensation, mist, or water droplets may appear in the lower section of the headlamps. This may be caused by the cooling of the headlamp lens



causing lowered dew point of internal lamp atmosphere subsequent localized misting.



Action:



In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Inspection and Repair Procedures outlined below to confirm the issue and, if necessary,



replace the affected headlamp(s) and adjust the headlamps.

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.



INSPECTION PROCEDURE



NOTE:



Under certain atmospheric conditions, condensation, misting, and fogging is acceptable at any level providing it does not grow to the point where



water droplets form and run down the inside of the headlamp lens. Lamps which show misting or fogging will usually clear with no adverse effect



when the headlamps are switched 'ON'.



1. Inspect the headlamps for condensation, misting, and fogging.



^ If only condensation, misting, and fogging are evident, release the vehicle. (Figure 1)

^ If water droplets have formed, proceed to REPLACE AFFECTED HEADLAMP(S) below. (Figure 2)

REPLACE AFFECTED HEADLAMP(S)



NOTE:



Replace only a headlamp exhibiting the fault; do not automatically replace as a pair.



NOTE:

Manual



1. Refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) section 417-01, Exterior Lighting, and replace the affected headlamp(s).



2. Refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) section 417-01, Exterior Lighting, and perform a headlamp adjustment [86.40.17].
