A machine as extreme as the Porsche 911 GT2 RS can't really be pushed to anywhere near its limits on public roads. Which is why many owners are likely to take theirs to the track. Porsche knows that better than anyone, so it's rolling out a new Clubsport Package geared specifically for track duty.
As Auto Express reports, the Clubsport Package adds a steel half-cage to the cockpit for extra reinforcement – similar to the titanium one that's included in the Weissach Package (pictured), but this one's certified by the FIA, so it can actually be raced.
Along with the steel cage, the package also features an on-board fire extinguisher and an aluminum bracket to hold it in place, as well as a six-point racing harness for the driver. The belt can be used with the standard sports seats or the full racing bucket, but not the electrically adjustable seat option.
The Competition Package can also be combined with the Weissach pack, which (aside from the titanium roll cage) also includes a set of forged magnesium wheels and a carbon-fiber hood and roof to shave 30 kilograms (66 pounds) off the GT2's curb weight.
The best part, though, is that the Clubsport pack is said to be a no-cost option. Not that the price would matter much, considering the $293,200 for which the 911 GT2 RS retails in the US, which is more than three times the base price on a 911 Carrera. But what a machine you get for all that scratch.
Like most versions of Porsche's signature model, the GT2 RS is turbocharged. But this one sends 700 horsepower to the rear wheels for a 0-60 mph time of 2.7 seconds. No wonder it clocked the fastest time on the Nürburgring (with some help from Manthey-Racing) at 6:40.3.
