SITUATION



The installation instructions for the Alarm Kit currently available on the "BMW Installation Instructions" CD have been revised. As of 9/02



production the Cooper and Cooper S are pre-wired for the installation of an Alarm System. The hazard lights will flash when the vehicles is locked,



using the remote key, indicating that the alarm system is activated. There is no ability to have to have an audible chirp for activation or deactivation



of the alarm. A chirp will be generated if the doors, hood or rear hatch are not properly closed at the time the vehicle is being locked via the remote



key.

INSTALLATION TIME



The installation time for this kit is approximately 1.25 hours



These instructions were developed especially for MINI vehicles and are not to be compared to any existing instructions for vehicles other than MINI.



No methods other than those specified in this document are to be used to install this Alarm System Installation Kit.



Upon installation of the Alarm Kit, the vehicle will need to be recoded.

PARTS INFORMATION



PROCEDURE



1. Disconnect Battery prior to starting the installation.



2. Remove the cover (1) for the Ultrasonic Module located above rear seat.



3. Place the Ultrasonic Module (5) into the cover (6) making certain that the arrows on the module and the cover are aligned.



^ Clip the module into the cover.

4. Connect the module (5) to connector X1582.



^ Reinstall the cover.



5. Remove the access panel located on the left of the rear storage compartment.



Note:



X1222 is taped to the wiring harness.



^ Carefully remove the tape that is securing X1222 to the wiring harness.



6. Connect the Tilt Sensor (2) to the black 6 pin connector X1222.

7. Install the Tilt Sensor (2) using two hexagonal screws M6 x 16 (9).



8. Attach the Power Siren (3) to the mounting bracket (4) using an M6 nut (13).



9. The black 4-pin connector X19562 (1) located in the left rear corner of the engine compartment near the ABS/ASC Hydraulic module is taped



to the wiring harness.



^ Carefully remove the tape that secures the connector to the harness (1).



10. Connect the black 4 pin connector X19562 to the siren (3).

11. Remove the plastic film covering the mounting hole for the siren bracket (1).



12. Secure the mounting bracket and siren (1) into place using a hexagonal screw M6 x 12 (10) and Hexagonal nut (13).



13. Remove lower section of steering column trim:



^ Remove ignition switch rubber (1)



^ Remove screws (2)

14. Remove knee bolster (1) by carefully pulling the plastic cover forward.



15. Remove lower trim cover:



^ Release lower trim cover (1) retaining clips (4).



^ Remove lower trim cover by pressing in on the upper trim cover (arrow).



16. Remove upper section of steering column trim:



^ Remove two screws (1) at rear of gauges.



^ Disconnect plug.



^ Remove remote gauge cluster.



^ Remove upper trim cover.



17. Remove the wiper switch:

^ Remove screw (1).



^ Remove the wiper switch (arrow).



^ Disconnect connector (2).



18. Install the new wiper switch (1) with anti-theft status indicator.



Note:



The removed wiper switch should be returned to the customer when the vehicle is picked up.



19. Reinstall all removed components and trim covers.



20. Reconnect Battery.



CODING OF THE CONTROL MODULE



After installing this alarm kit the vehicle must be re-coded using the Retrofit" path to ensure that the alarm works properly with the systems



currently installed in the vehicle. The recoding is done automatically when using the "retrofit" path on the DIS or GT1.



"Retrofit" re-coding steps:



^ Connect DIS or GT1 to vehicle



^ Turn on ignition



^ Select "Coding ZCS"



^ Series: "R50"



^ Path: "2 Retrofit"



^ System: "Alarm system"

Upon completion of the recoding, verify that the alarm system is working correctly by going through the action steps shown, after completing each



step ensure that the desired result is obtained
